What does this feature do?

Categories allow you to group objects/ line items together in intuitive ways. Doing this also allows the model to isolate the behavior of one group from another.

Why should I care?

Organization is important for understanding. Keep your model organized and unique items separated by grouping similar items together. This will make your financial model easier to use as well as present and manage.

Where can I find it?

Categories can be found on any section of the assumptions page within the drawer of any object.

How should I use it?

Categories have many use cases which range from aesthetic to functional. An example of an aesthetic use case would be grouping revenue streams by type. For example, placing all of your different subscription revenue packages under one category titled “Subscription Revenue”. A functional Use case could be separating your different customer acquisition strategies by the “type of customer” they’re used to attract. For example, maybe you use some strategies to attract buyers and other strategies to attract sellers and need to distinguish between the two. Creating a category with the titles of “buyer” or “seller” for each will, yes, keep the strategies separated but also allow your revenue streams to see that only one specific customer type should interact with a particular revenue stream instead of them all going in the same bucket.
