Going from good -> great is all in the details. Customizing the emails sent out to members is one of those invaluable details.

What is Email Automation?

Many creators spend hours perfecting their sales pages, product visuals, and course descriptions, but often overlook one of the most powerful engagement tools available: automated emails. These emails are triggered by key user actions and are sent directly from your platform to help guide, inform, or convert your users.

Some emails are purely transactional, like the password reset message. But with Forento’s Email Automation feature, you can go far beyond that. For example, you can send a welcome email to greet new users the moment they sign up for your platform. You can create an introduction email when someone accesses your masterclass, outlining what they’ll learn, how to get started, and common questions they may have. You can also set up upsell emails, so that anyone who gets an individual course is encouraged to upgrade to a membership subscription. If you’re offering a free resource, you can even automate follow-up emails for anyone accessing your lead magnet, nudging them toward your main offer. 👉 Learn how to create a lead magnet

Emails can be created in either plain text (MJML) or fully designed HTML, depending on whether you want a simple message or a rich, visual experience with links, images, and buttons.

How can I customize the emails?

You can customize the emails by going to the Email Automation page found in the settings menu. Once on the page, you'll see a list of all the emails available, with buttons to enable (for the emails that can be disabled/enabled) as well as an "Edit email" button.

All of the emails listed have standard content added to them by Forento. This means that customization is not a requirement, but rather an option for creators who want to design a brand-specific user experience for members and customers.

When editing, you can choose either to edit in clear text with MJML or add custom HTML code. Depending on what you want to set up, both of these options are viable. The MJML editor allows you to easily add text based on the pre-determined MJML layout.

If you want to add solely text-based content and are not too worried about changing the layout, buttons, spacing, and other details, MJML is the fastest option. If you'd like to design something visual, HTML is the way to go.

Without any HTML experience, I was able to craft a visually appealing and compelling email through ChatGPT. I entered some text I had written for the default clear-text editor, and asked GPT to convert it into a visually appealing HTML email. I pasted the HTML code into Forento and swapped out a few placeholder links and the screenshot below is the result //Adrian at Forento

Adding a custom email address

The email address from which your platform emails are sent will be a standard Forento address unless you connect a custom email address.

The "Adrian's Demo Platform" section displays the name of your platform, which can be changed on the Customize Platform page. Whereas the email address is a no-reply, Forento provided the address.

If you'd like to connect a custom email address, you can do so at the bottom of this page. The menu shown in the image below will pop up, where you'll be asked to enter details from your email provider.
