Introduction

An important part of building your website is making sure visitors can easily navigate from your site to your platform.

After reading this guide, you'll be able to add as many buttons as you'd like to your site, but we usually recommend adding at least one:

  • Sign-up/Log-in Button

  • Offer Button

The sign-up/log-in button allows visitors to create an account on your platform or log in if they are existing members. The offer button typically leads to a product (digital download, course, or coaching session) or membership offer. This ensures visitors can easily find what you're offering on your platform.

Configuring Links

You can enter any internal or external link for your website buttons. An internal link is a section or page hosted on your website, while external links can be any web address.

Internal Links

Direct people around your website. For example, you might want to tell your potential customers all about your business, background, and vision on the "About Us" page, but also include a summary of this information in a section on your home page. In this section, you can add a button like "Learn More" that links to the internal "About Us" page.

External Links

Direct people to any external website, such as your platform, YouTube channel, or Wikipedia page. This setting is what you need to use in case you want to direct people from your website to different sections of your website.

To change the link destination of any of your website buttons:

  1. Click on the button in edit mode.

  2. Click the "Edit link."

  3. Choose external/internal.

  4. Select an internal page or enter an external URL.

Grabbing the correct URLs

Creating buttons on your website that link to your platform is easy. You essentially only need to go to the page you'd like to link to, copy the URL, and then enter it into the button as an "external URL", described above.

The first step toward linking sections of your platform from your website is visiting your platform. You can find your platform by going to your Forento Dashboard and then clicking the "Platform" link.

Once you've clicked this link you'll be brought to your platforms /courses page. If you don't yet have any published courses, the page will be empty.

On the left-hand side (or at the top, if you've got the legacy layout theme enabled for your platform) there is a menu where you can see all pages that are available for your platform.

From here, I can easily navigate to different sections of your platform and simply copy the web address to then enter it into your website button settings.

If I for example was building a sales page for a specific downloadable, I would want a button on that sales page that directs members directly to said digital download. To do this, I'll first need to go to the downloadables section.

Once I've visited my platform's downloadable page, I can select what downloadable I want to link to by clicking on it. (My demo platform only has a single downloadable)

Once I've opened the downloadable product, I can go ahead and copy the URL.

Once I've copied the URL, I can go back to my website, and enter it as an "external URL" to my button. I can also choose if I want it to open in a new tab.

The button now links to my downloadable product, allowing visitors to easily navigate to my platform where they can sign up, purchase, and access the product.

This method (visiting your platform to copy the URL and entering it as an external URL to buttons on your website) works not only for products (downloadables, courses, coaching sessions, memberships) but also for other pages such as the sign-up/log-in page.
