Introduction

Adding captions to your videos is important for ensuring accessibility and improving user experience on your platform. Captions make your content accessible to a wider audience, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as non-native speakers.

If you're adding subtitles to your video in your editing software before uploading, you're good to go by just uploading the video. But, if your video does not have any burnt-in captions, you might want to add them separately.

Adding captions separately also allows your viewers to individually choose if they want to view the videos with captions or without.

How to add captions for your videos

Through Forento, you can upload your captions either as VTT (Video Text Track) or SRT (SubRip) files. You can do this for both videos within courses, but also for individual videos.

SRT (SubRip Subtitle): SRT is a simple subtitle file format used for storing subtitles for videos. It contains plain text entries with timestamps that indicate when each subtitle should appear and disappear during playback.

VTT (WebVTT): VTT is a more versatile subtitle format designed for web video content. It supports features like styling, positioning, and cue settings beyond basic text and timing. VTT files are commonly used for online video platforms and HTML5 video players.

To add subtitles to a video you're uploading, you must first open a video Course page or individual Video. Then, navigate to the "Captions" section. Either click and find your file, or drag and drop it into the captions section.
