To get surround sound audio, a video must have a 5.1 badge indicating it has been encoded for surround sound, and your device must have surround sound speakers connected.

If you're watching a video with a 5.1 badge and have surround sound speakers connected but aren't getting surround sound audio, try the following platform-specific troubleshooting tips:

Apple TV (TVOS)

  1. Ensure your Apple TV is configured to Auto Audio Format.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format = Auto

  3. If you have a different setting navigate to the Audio Format menu and set Change Format = Off

Microsoft Xbox

  1. Navigate to General settings > Volume & audio output

  2. Choose the 5.1 uncompressed in the Speaker audio.

Samsung Tizen TV

  1. In the All Settings go to Sound and check your Sound Output to match the hardware.

  2. Make sure Dolby Atmos is unchecked in the Sound Expert Settings.
