Copilot and Content Planner Integration

Written by Joe Davis

Copilot is integrated with Content Planner to provide a seamless editorial workflow across planning and publishing.

What is Content Planner?

Content Planner is Condé Nast's content planning tool, used to plan, schedule and share publications across print, web, social and video. It is a key part of the editorial tooling ecosystem, and its core function is to allow brands to plan their content lineups before ultimately publishing in Copilot.

What is the Copilot and Content Planner integration?

When a brand is onboarded to Content Planner, editors are expected to plan digital stories there first, then move into Copilot to draft and publish.

There are two key workflows depending on editorial needs:

1. Content Planner → Copilot

An editor plans a digital story in Content Planner, creating a story shell that can then be sent to Copilot for drafting and publishing.

2. Copilot → Content Planner

In fast-moving scenarios such as breaking news, editors may need to start work directly in Copilot. In this case, when a story is created in Copilot, a corresponding record can be automatically created in Content Planner – ensuring consistency across both platforms.

When an editor clicks the ‘Create’ button in Copilot and selects either ‘Article’ or 'Gallery’, they will see a pop up box appear – see below:

On the pop up box, it will say 'Start from a blank article' or 'Start from an existing template'. 'Start from a blank article' will be preselected. If a brand has an article template that they would like to use, they can select the 'Start from an existing template' checkbox and choose a template from the dropdown menu below.

Important: as per the image above, there is also a 'Create Story in Content Planner' checkbox. This will be automatically selected. It is important that the box remains ticked, which will ensure a record of the story is automatically created in Content Planner.

Then click the blue 'Create' button.

At the top of the newly created article or gallery page it will look like this:

The yellow Active icon = a record of the article or gallery has been created in Content Planner.

The Content Planner link = clicking the link will take you to the corresponding record in the Content Planner tool.

When creating a new article or gallery, what happens if I untick the 'Create Story in Content Planner' button? (as shown below)

If a new article or gallery is created with the 'Create Story in Content Planner' checkbox unticked, the article or gallery page will look like this:

Clicking the Send to Content Planner button will create a record in Content Planner and then the status will change to Active – see below.
