The Quick Start feature is a button in Copilot that helps editorial teams build articles faster.
Quick Start lets you build an article from a single paste of your text document — auto-populating the fields, generating the URL, and adding channels and tags.
View the sample doc to see how to format your document before pasting into Copilot.
How Does It Work?
Once you are ready to paste the text from your Google Doc into Copilot to publish, click on the Quick Start button at the top of the article form – see below:
Then a pop up modal will appear – see below:
From your Google Doc, paste your Headline, Dek, Bylines and Body into the text field on the Quick Start modal.
Please note: the Google Doc must be formatted correctly for the feature to work as expected.
Line 1 — Headline: must be the first line in the document. It can be any font size and doesn't need to use a heading style.
Line 2 — Dek: must be the second line. It can also be any font size and doesn't need a heading style.
Line 3 — Bylines: must be written as By: [NAME]. For multiple authors, separate each name with a comma — e.g. By: Jane Smith, John Doe. Enter names exactly as they appear in Copilot so Quick Start can match them to the correct contributor.
Everything below — Body: all remaining text is treated as the body.
View sample Google Doc.
You can also add a photo directly in the modal using the Story Image field.
Then click Build Article
What happens after I click Build Article?
Quick Start does the following:
Text fields are populated with your Headline, Dek and Body.
Bylines are added.
Homepage, SEO and Social fields are filled using your Headline, Dek and Story Image.
Content source is set to Web automatically.
Primary channel and tags are added automatically — matched to the relevant taxonomy by analysing your article text behind the scenes.
The URL is generated from your Headline.
Everything can be changed at any time before publishing
