Content planner allows you to make direct copies of content and also allows you to make adaptations of content.

Adaptations become a child (an adaptation) of the parent content (the original). By default an adaptation will sync with the original, meaning updates to the information in the story will flow through to the child adaptation (this could be anything from changes to the data in the content settings to additional contributors being added and so on).

The power of adaptations means Condé Nast editorial teams from other markets can discover content at any stage in the planning phase and make an adaptation of it, allowing them to work ahead of time and plan to reuse the content in the other markets publications and sites. It also allows editors of the original content to have visibility over where their content has been reused. For example 'Wired US' plans some content, and then the UK, Japan and Italy adapt the content for their local markets, the editor in the US will be able to see that this is where the content is being re-used and by which editors for which mediums in those brands and markets.

Content Planner allows global teams to share and discover content, the pick up markets then have better visibility over global content being planned and can adapt stories early allowing them to work ahead of time (getting translations done, sourcing new assets if they need them etc...) and get content out whilst it is relevant. This all promotes content re-use globally and provides a connective tissue with in Condé Nast.
