Creating Adaptations

To create an adaptation of a content record, either open the content fly-out or content page and click on the ‘Adaptation’ button in the top right above the Content Settings section.

Once you have clicked the ‘Adaptation’ button an adaptation fly-out will appear giving you the options to tailor the adaptation for your needs.

  1. The first option is to select a 'Medium*' you want this new content to be assigned to (this allows you to create a digital adaptation of a print story or vice versa for example)

  2. Then you can create a new 'Content Name*', this will be pre-filled with the original contents name with ‘(Adaptation)’ appended to the end. It is recommended you leave this as is as it allows for quick searching of original and adaptation content by content name

  3. You must select a 'Brand*' and 'Market*' for your adaptation, if you are adapting this for a different local brand & market you will select the values as per your local brand and market. If you are making an adaptation that is for a different medium but in the same brand and market as the original you just need to re-enter the original brand and market values

  4. Next you assign a ‘Plan*’ and ‘Publish Date*’ (remember if the plan type is print then the publish date will be automagically pre-filled and read-only)

  5. Then you need to assign an ‘Editor*’, this is the owner of the story in the new brand, market and medium

  6. You can also assign a new Visuals Editor if someone in the new brand, market and medium needs to be working on asset acquisition or sign-off but is not mandatory.

  7. And you need to add a 'Workday Owner*', this should be pre-filled based on your brand settings (with the ability to change it if needs be)

Once you have selected a 'Medium*', the form will update to show whether the assets (image and text) from each contributors assigned in the original content are cleared for re-use in your brand, market and medium. From here you can decipher if you need to gain additional rights/contracts to use the media in your adaptation or if it entirely cleared with the existing rights/contracts.

Below example shows assets from contributor Tory Smith that are cleared for re-use in your adaptation.

Below example shows assets from source Getty Images that are NOT cleared for re-use in your adaptation.

Below example shows a manuscript from contributor Ellen Burney that is cleared for re-use in your adaptation.

Once you have configured the adaptation settings for your needs (and checked that you have rights to use the contributors from the original content in the new brand, market and medium) you can proceed to click the blue ‘Create Adaptation’ in the bottom right of the adaptation fly-out. This will create the adaptation for you and take you to the new content page.

The data in the 'Content Settings' section from the original will be kept in sync until you change any of the data. The Contributors (commissioned & non-commissioned) from the original content will also be kept in sync, but they will be locked and read-only. You have the option to add new Contributors (commissioned & non-commissioned) and kill the contributors from the original in your adaptation.

Note: You can not create adaptations of adaptations, only adaptations of original content.
