As of June 2024, image rights shown on Encore. This change was implemented to improve the editorial workflow for Encore users.
When opening a story on Encore, the story preview box looks like this….
There are three tabs on the Preview box called: Story Text, Images and Published Syndications.
STORY TEXT
On this tab, all the same information that was shown before is still displayed, including all of the story’s body text.
IMAGES
The Images tab displays all of the images associated with the story – see screenshot below. The Images tab includes: Site Image, Story Image, Social Image, as well as images in the body field or Gallery slide images.
There are two sub categories under the Images tab: Cleared for reuse and Check reuse rights.
Cleared for reuse
‘Cleared for reuse’ means: The images have been cleared for reuse for the brand that is selected in the ‘Destination’ menu – which is positioned on the right hand side of the story preview box.
As always, the images must be used for editorial purposes only and in the same context as the original story.
Check reuse rights
‘Check reuse rights’ means: Before you publish the images with your syndication, the image reuse rights must be checked with the brand that published the original story.
Why has the Images tab update been added to Encore?
In the past, when looking to publish syndicated content, editors have always been required to manually check image reuse rights with the brand that published the original story.
With this update, the aim is to improve the editorial workflow – and make it easier and faster for editors to do their jobs. The purpose here is not to block anyone from syndicating a story with uncleared images, but rather, to reduce the amount of manual checking editors have to do for images that we know are already cleared.
For now, the images that are ‘Cleared for reuse’ on Encore will be only images that originated with Getty. Any images that fall into the ‘Check reuse rights’ category should be checked with the brand that published the original story. In the future, we hope to be able to show image rights for more types of images.
Published Syndications
The Published Syndications tab shows the Condé Nast brands that have already syndicated and published the original story.
