RoutingBox Driver App

A guide to the RoutingBox Driver App experience

The RoutingBox Driver App is an integral piece of the driver experience within the RoutingBox ecosystem. This guide covers the core functionality of the app along with basic troubleshooting tips.

Installing the App and Setting Permissions

Download the app

Search for RoutingBox in your device's app store and install it:

  • Android devices: Google Play Store

  • Apple devices: Apple App Store

Set permissions

After installing, set the following permissions so the app functions correctly:

  • Location → set to Allow all the time. RoutingBox needs to retrieve geo-location data from the device to maximize GPS accuracy.

Logging In and Setting the Language

Before you start: Your company code and PIN are provided by your admin team. If you don't have them, contact your admin before logging in.

  1. Launch the RoutingBox Driver App. On first launch, you're asked to enter your company code.

  2. To use the app in Spanish, tap the orange ES icon at the bottom of this screen before continuing. English (EN) is the default.

Company code entry screen. Tap ES to switch to Spanish before continuing.
  3. Tap Continue. A list of your company's drivers appears.

  4. Tap your name in the list.

Driver List screen. Select your name from the list to continue.
  5. Enter your 4-digit PIN. By default, this is the last 4 digits of the driver's license number on the driver profile in RoutingBox. If you don't know your PIN, your admin team can provide it.

Navigating the Driver App

Once logged in, you land on today's assigned trips. A few things to note on this screen:

  • If vehicle checklists are enabled, a message at the top prompts you to complete it.

  • The vehicle assigned for today is shown in the upper-right corner.

  • A connection icon in the lower-right corner indicates whether the app is connected to the RoutingBox servers.

Today's assigned trips. Note the assigned vehicle (top right) and connection status (bottom right).

The main menu

Tap the three lines in the upper-left corner to open the main menu. From here you can access:

  • Timekeeping — an add-on feature for clocking in and out.

  • Vehicle checklist — if enabled.

  • Today's and tomorrow's assigned trips.

  • Today's unassigned trips and will calls — this can be disabled so drivers cannot assign these trips to themselves. (A "will call" is a return trip with no fixed pickup time, activated when the client calls in to request the ride.)

  • Mute alerts — silences the audible tone that plays when a trip is added, removed, or changed.

  • Logout — at the very bottom. You can only log out once all of today's trips are complete.

Completing the Vehicle Checklist

If enabled, the vehicle checklist contains items for the Driver to evaluate before beginning their day. These items can be configured by an admin in the Settings tab of RoutingBox. Drivers should mark each item as Good or Defective.

  • Selecting Defective lets you add notes for that item.

  • You can update an odometer reading here, which updates the odometer field on the vehicle profile.

  • When the checklist is enabled, it must be completed before the first trip can be started.

The checklist can be configured to run:

  • Pre-day only

  • Post-day only

  • Both pre-day and post-day

  • Disabled

Updating and Completing Trips

After completing any enabled checklists, you can begin working through trips.

Trip pop-ups

Whenever a trip is added, updated, or removed, a pop-up appears on screen. From the pop-up you can:

  • View some details about the change

  • Close the pop-up

  • Open the full trip

Trip change pop-up.

Working a trip

Tap a trip leg assigned for today to open it. All relevant details and notes appear here, along with these controls:

  • Map icon (next to the pickup and dropoff) — opens the device's default navigation app for directions.

  • Phone icon — calls the number on record for the client, using your device's phone line.

  • Arrow key (right of the trip status) — advances the trip to the next status.

  • Pencil icon (left of the trip status) — manually triggers the client signature pop-up. (This can also be configured to appear automatically when the trip is completed.)

The 5 trip statuses

Every completed trip moves through these five statuses in order:

  1. En Route to Pickup — can be updated from anywhere, as long as it's the first status. This status also triggers Driver Assist on the trip.

  2. Arrived at Pickup — update upon arriving at the pickup location.

  3. En Route to Dropoff — update while still at the pickup, after the client is in the vehicle.

  4. Arrived at Dropoff — update upon arriving at the dropoff location.

  5. Completed — update before the client gets out of the vehicle.

Once a trip is marked Completed, a pop-up automatically appears to capture client and/or driver signatures.

What is Driver Assist? Driver Assist allows the app to automatically update trip statuses based on driver location. For full details, see RoutingBox Driver Assist Overview.

  1. Tap the trip status at the top of the screen to open the list of statuses you can trigger manually.

  2. Tap No Show. The trip is marked as a no-show.

Logging out

Once all of today's trips are complete:

  1. Fill out the post-day checklist (if enabled).

  2. Log out of the app.

Note: Attempting to log out before completing all remaining trips will prevent you from logging out.

Troubleshooting

How GPS works in the app

GPS is derived at the device level via Location Services. It is neither created nor changed by RoutingBox. The app simply requests GPS data from the device:

  • Every 30–60 seconds, and

  • Whenever a trip status is updated.

Connection and location notifications

The app displays a notification when:

  • The device is not currently transmitting location data, or

  • The device is not actively connected to RoutingBox.

Restarting the device typically resolves these, as long as there is an active internet connection.

Standard fix for most device-level issues

Other apps on the device can interfere with functions like Location Services. To resolve most device-related issues:

  1. Power the device off, then back on.

  2. Relaunch only the RoutingBox Driver App.

When to contact RoutingBox

  • One or a few drivers affected: This is almost always a device-level issue. Use the standard fix above.

  • All drivers affected at once: Contact the RoutingBox support team immediately via live chat or phone at (716) 202-9121 option 3.
