Exams and Certification

Taking Exams

When you’re ready to take the exam, our online booking system makes it simple. You can select any available date and time that suits you on our Exams page.

The exam is taken entirely online from your own home, with a live invigilator monitoring the test remotely. This means you do not need to travel to a test centre.

During the exam, you will verify your ID, clear your desk, and follow the invigilator’s instructions. Approved resources (like an on-screen calculator in Maths when allowed) can be used.

Combined Exams

For Level 1 and 2 Maths, there is one combined exam covering number, measure, and data handling.

For English, the exam has three parts – Reading, Writing, and Speaking & Listening.

Exam Results

Results are usually quick. On-screen test results often arrive within a few working days.

If you pass all parts of the exam, the awarding body will issue your certificates (sent digitally or by post).

Functional Skills certificates are nationally recognised and will be emailed or mailed to you once you pass.

Retaking the Exam

If you don’t succeed on your first attempt, don’t worry – you can resit the parts you need. Because our exams run year-round online, you can typically rebook within days or weeks, without waiting for a special exam season.

You only need to retake the component that you did not pass (for example, just the English Writing or just the Maths exam).

Getting help and support

Our staff can help you focus on the specific areas where you lost marks before you try again. This flexible approach means most learners can quickly improve and pass on a second attempt.

Throughout this process, you remain in control: you study on your schedule, and you book exams when you feel prepared. After you pass, you’ll have gained a practical qualification that employers, colleges, and apprenticeship programs trust.

Ready to take your exam? Book a time that suits you. Good luck!
