Why do I need to secure my password?

When you login to our website, you need to authenticate using a username and password, which we then compare with the username and password you had submitted when you registered your account. Only if they match, we then allow you to access your account.

Any person who knows your username and password can login to our website and access your account. Your username is likely to be publicly known, leaving your password as the only secret information. Any unauthorized person who manages to steal your password can access your account, which might result in identity theft and financial loss. It is, therefore, important to secure your password.

How can someone steal my password?

There are many ways hackers can steal your passwords, including using key loggers, intercepting network traffic, and so on. The easiest to carry out and the most commonly used technique is perhaps password guessing or brute-forcing. In this technique, hackers try multiple combinations of characters, often using a computer program, until they find the one that can be used to login to our website. Depending on the password, there might be millions of passwords to try and thousand of hours to complete the attack.

What is a strong password?

A strong password is a password that is not easy to guess even by a computer program. The stronger the password, the longer it takes for hackers to guess the password. We recommend you to use a strong password on our website.

How to choose a strong password?

1. Use a long password

Passwords with a large number of characters are more difficult to guess because there are bigger numbers of possible passwords containing that number of characters that hackers have to try.

We recommend you to use at least 8 characters in your password.

2. Use mixed characters

Passwords with combinations of characters are more difficult to guess because there are bigger numbers of possible passwords containing those characters that hackers have to try.

We recommend you to use at least one small letter, one capital letter, and one digit in your password.

3. Do not use dictionary word

People often use dictionary words in their passwords because they are easy to remember. Hackers know this very well and include dictionary words in their list of passwords to try.

We recommend you to NOT use dictionary words in your password. If you still want to use dictionary words, you need to modify them heavily, for example, by replacing letters with digits, before you use them.

4. Do not use personal information

Your personal information, such as your name, the name of your spouse, and your date of birth, might be publicly known. Hackers who are trying to steal your password might specifically tailor the list of passwords to try based on your personal information.

We recommend you to NOT use personal information in your password.
