Fuxam has four different types of roles, namely: administrator, moderator, educator and member. Roles are an important security aspect of the software since they determine the amount of access a user has within an institution. While an admin might be able to change the institution-wide grading schema, a normal member (which could be a university student for instance) shouldn't be able to do that. In this article we will explain exactly how much access different roles have within an institution and give an example of what that kind of role would be within a university.

Member

In the university example, a member would be a regular student. A member has access to all the standard functionality which can be found on the dock at the left of the screen.
They'll be able to see an overview of the courses they have access to and click on them. After opening the course, they'll be able to work through the course content one by one.

Educator

An educator will be able to see everything that a member sees, except they can also create and edit course content, manage and grade their users and also see a preview of a course.

Moderator

A moderator will be able to see and do everything that a educator does, except they can also manage institution layers from an administrative perspective. This means they can also set the duration of a specific layer or structure it.

Administrator

An administrator has all the access that a moderator would have except for all the layer of the entire institution. Additionally an administrator is able to change institution-wide settings and manage all institution users and their data in a high level overview.
