Every institution relies on good communication. To ensure that this is achieved, we at Fuxam have decided to add a chat function to our program. Here in this article I´ll show you how you can find, create and use the chat properly.

Where to find the Fuxam chat?

Global chat

Every user also has the Global chat feature, here you´re able to either start conversations with one other user, or create a group.

You find the Global chat icon down in your tab bar.

Once you click on the icon you´ll see three different Symbols in top of the chats.

The first thing you see is the search bar, here you can search for already ongoing chats.

Right next to it, the plus symbol with the circle around it, is the add button here you can add a person to start a chat.

On the right the three lines is the filter option here you can search for a specific kind of conversation like groups or direct messages.

Course chat

Initially, we have access to the course chat feature, which is available in every course within your institution.

1.You select any course of your choice and open it. Click on the "Chat" tab to open the Chat. You can also review all your course chats in the global chat, so its not necessary to switch between courses just to see the chat.

2. Now you´ll see that chat and are ready to start conversations with everyone within the specific course!

What use does the chat have?

Communication in the course

First of all it makes the communication inside the course very easy, it´s not always necessary to write an E-Mail because of every small question that may come up and

it´s now easier to answer to minor problems.

Communication between users

Either in a workspace or school space communication between each other, even privately, is important to keep an healthy environment inside your institution. To have the opportunity to chat with your work-/ classmates, makes forming study or work groups way easier.

Questions to the lecturer

Sometimes questions come up later and you can´t ask then in person anymore except you´re willing to wait until you see that person again. Here the chat helps you to ask your questions directly to the teacher/ lecturer without having to wait and maybe even forgetting it.

How does the chat work?

How do you chat?

After you added a person in a conversation or are in a course chat you´ll see a line down on your screen that says "Enter a new message" here you click and then you´re able to text.

Sending your message

After you typed your message you can send it either by pressing the enter key on your keyboard, or using the arrow down right under your message.

Changing the Style of your text

When you know look to the left you also have the option to adapt how the words in your massage appear. You´ve got the options: "Bold" which will make your text more thick, "Italic" that option will turn your text cursive, "Underline" which will put a line under everything you text or "Strikethrough" this option will turn a line right through the middle of your words. You are also able to combine those options.

Using Block Quote, Numbered List and the Bulleted List

Block Quote: The Block Quote is used for direct quotations, it makes the message easily to differentiate from the usual text.

Numbered List: Can be used to, for example, list a number of points you want to say in numeric order.

Bullet List: If you don´t need a as many points to use a Numbered List you can use the Bullet List to draw visual attention to a point of your text.

Inserting links and codes

Inserting a link: To add a link, click on the designated button. This will open a window where you can enter the Name and URL for your link.

Inserting a code: To enter a code, press the button on the right that says "Insert Code".

If you perform the action, a new window will appear. This is where you can input your desired code and also select the scripting language you prefer, such as JavaScript or Python.

Uploading pictures, files, gifs and emojis.

Pictures and Files: Underneath the chat on the right side you can see a paperclip when you click on it you have the option to either upload an image or a file.

Gifs: To make a conversation feel more alive and friendly you can use gifs. The gif button is right next to the picture and file one. If you use it a small window will show up where you can either search for a gif topic or just choose on of the already trending ones!

Emojis: Sometimes some messages will feel a little bland here you can use emojis to give your text a bit of a lively tone.

Disabling off the chat function

Having a chat is nice, but sometimes there is just no need for one, so you of course have the ability to turn off the chat.

Where to disable chat?

To turn off the chat, you go to the Institution Settings, then choose Communication. Now you´ll see to options, the "Allow messaging" and "Course chat" option. You can turn either of them off by turning on and off the switch next to it and click on "Save".

Turning off "Allow messaging": This will turn off the global chat in your institution and no one will be able to use it anymore. The chat icon will disappear.

Turning off "Course chat": With this option you can turn off the chat inside your courses similar to the global chat icon, the course chat will disappear and no one can use it anymore.

That is it you are all set now for your experience with the Fuxam chat!
