Gabb Messenger Safe Video Calling

Safe Video Calling overview 📋

Your child can make & receive safe video calls from friends & family who have Gabb Messenger installed on their phone. The Gabb Messenger app is available to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.


‼️ Your child must send a one-time link to their friend or family member with an invite to download Gabb Messenger on their device. They can only send a link to someone who is already a contact.

‼️ If we detect nudity on the video call we’ll end the call, block video calling, & send you a notification.

How Safe Video Calling works 🤳

When your friend or family receives a one-time invite link 🔗 from your child, they must sign up using their phone number. We’ll then verify that phone number by texting a code sent to that number.

They must upload a photo of themselves during the sign-up process and provide their name. After they complete signup, we’ll send an email to the primary parent with all of the contact’s information.

For parents 🧑‍🍼

Download & log in to the Gabb Messenger app on your smartphone using your existing credentials (not your child’s). This allows you to have access to all of Gabb Messenger's parental controls.

How to enable Safe Video Calling on your child's Gabb phone:

  1. Open Gabb Messenger on your smartphone.

  2. Tap your child's profile icon, then tap Controls. 🎛️

  3. Toggle Safe Video Calling on.

  4. Open Gabb Messenger on your child's Gabb phone.

  5. Tap Troubleshooting, then tap Sync Settings. 🔄

For kids 🧒

Kids can send an invite link to friends & family to invite them to use Safe Video Calling on Gabb Messenger. This person must already be a contact in your child’s phone.

Here's how to send a link to a friend or family member:

  1. Open the Gabb Messenger app on your Gabb phone.

  2. Tap Contacts.

  3. Tap the blue video camera icon next to the contact you want to send a Safe Video Calling invite.

    1. The camera icon will have a link icon 🔗 on it. This indicates contacts where Safe Video Calling is currently locked. These are the contacts your child will need to send an invite link to.

  4. Send the link to your contact. They must download the Gabb Messenger app on their phone to make and receive video calls.

After the friend or family member completes the sign-up process your child will be able to make or receive Safe Video Calls to/from that contact.

If your friend or family member doesn’t accept the invite link before it expires, your child can send them a new one.

For friends & family 👥

Follow these steps to sign up for Gabb Messenger as a friend or family member after receiving the invite link from the child:

  1. Download Gabb Messenger from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  2. Click the one-time link sent by the child.

  3. Open Gabb Messenger, then tap Continue.

  4. Enter & verify your phone number. We’ll send you a code via text message. Enter this code into the Gabb Messenger app.

  5. Follow the prompts to sign up for Gabb Messenger. You'll be prompted to enter some information and take a selfie.

  6. Tap the blue video camera icon to start a Safe Video Call.

Troubleshooting 🚨

Can’t send invite link/invite link not received

If you're having trouble sending an invite link, or the invite link was not received, make sure the phone number your child wants to invite to Safe Video Calling is added as a contact in the Gabb phone.

Add to approved contacts list

  1. Log in to the Gabb Messenger for parents app.

  2. Tap Contacts at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap the profile icon 👤 of the child you want to add an approved contacts list to.

  4. Select Parent-Managed from the Contact Management drop down.

  5. Tap the blue plus sign ➕ in the bottom-right corner.

  6. Add your contact:

    1. Create New Contact: Enter contact details manually.

    2. From Child's List: Approve from your child's existing contact list.

Add on Gabb phone (no approved contacts list)

  1. Open Gabb Messenger on your Gabb phone.

  2. Tap the person with the plus sign icon in the upper-right corner,

  3. Enter your contact’s details, then tap Save. ✅

Unable to make or receive a video call

If your child is unable to make or receive a video call, make sure that video calling is enabled on their Gabb phone:

  1. Make sure that both the child & the recipient have Gabb Messenger installed.

  2. Open Gabb Messenger on your (parent's) smartphone.

  3. Log your child into their Gabb ID app on their Gabb phone using their Gabb credentials (not yours).

  4. Enable Safe Video Calling:

    1. Open Gabb Messenger on your (parent’s) smartphone.

    2. Tap Controls 🎛️ then tap on your child’s profile icon at the top of the screen.

    3. Enable the Safe Video Calling toggle.

Invite link expired

If your friend or family member didn’t use their Safe Video Calling invite link in time, don’t worry! Your child can send them a new link. After they receive the new link, have them sign up for Gabb Messenger using these instructions.
