Finding your total plant protection products (PPPs) used figure for a season
Growers registering as professional users of PPPs under the Official Controls (Plant Protection Products) Regulations 2020 must provide an estimate of the quantity of professional PPPs and adjuvants used (or applied by a third party) in a typical year.
The following steps show how to quickly get this figure from Gatekeeper:
1. Open the analysis module
2. Click ‘Refresh’
3. Select the year(s) to refresh data for
4. Click ‘Refresh Data’
5. When refresh has completed, click ‘Close’
6. In the list on the left hand side, navigate to the report Field Operations > Farm Products Used Summary (you may need to navigate the ‘Predefined Queries’ filter before you can see this report).
7. Click ‘OK’ to close the filters screen that opens
8. Click ‘Setup’ in the module buttons
9. With ‘Farm Products Used Summary’ selected on the left hand side, click ‘Copy’ to create a copy of the report. Rename if desired, then click ‘OK’
10. Click ‘OK’ to close the filters screen that opens
11. Click ‘Options’ in the module buttons and then:
Find the column option ‘Quantity’ and click to add a tick to the ‘sub-total’ and ‘grand total’ boxes
Find the column option ‘Units’ and click to take the tick out of the ‘visible’ box
Click ‘OK’
12. In the filters screen that appears:
Select the business(es) you wish to report on
Select the year that you wish to report on
In the ‘Heading’ section:
Click ‘Pick’
Select the product types you need reported (typically adjuvants, fungicides, growth regulators, herbicides, insecticides, molluscicides)
Use any other filters (e.g., field group) if required.
Click ‘OK’
13. The ‘Grand Total’ line for quantity is your total PPP + adjuvant figure for the selected year and business(es)
Please note the following before using this process to get your PPP estimate:
Analysis reports can only return the information that has been entered into Gatekeeper. Any missing or incomplete field records will not be counted in your report
Ensure you select a year which contains a whole year’s cropping records (selecting the current season may not give you a full year’s product use)
In order to be able to add together different unit types (e.g., kilograms plus litres) to get a single PPP usage figure as required by the OCR registration form, the steps above ignore product units so that all the numbers can be added together to get a ‘quick and dirty’ estimate. If a large number of your products are set up in units other than litres or kilos (including if they are set to ml or mg), you may wish to adjust product settings before running this report.
