How do I withdraw money?

Withdrawals

You can withdraw your available cash to a UK bank account in your own name. Here's how it works from start to finish.

Before you start

Withdrawals are paid in pounds from your available cash: the money in your Gather account that isn't currently invested, less anything already set aside for a pending order or withdrawal. You can only withdraw cash that has settled. If your money is invested, sell first (see How do I sell an investment?), where you can also choose to have the proceeds sent to your bank account. Your identity checks need to be complete (see Verifying your identity).

Requesting a withdrawal

  1. Open Settings and, under Manage, tap Withdraw Available Cash.

  2. Choose GIA, ISA or SIPP. If you hold more than one account of that type, the withdrawal comes from the one with the most available cash, and the screen shows how much that is.

  3. Enter the amount, or tap Max, then tap Continue. There's a minimum withdrawal (currently £1.00), and you can't withdraw more than is available.

  4. On Review withdrawal, check the bank account, the account it comes from and the amount, then tap Confirm Withdrawal.

  5. On Confirm it's you, enter your password (or the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, if you've set one up) and tap Confirm Withdrawal again. We ask every time money leaves your account.

You'll then see Withdrawal requested.

Your bank account

The app asks you to add the bank account you want withdrawals paid to the first time you add money, or the first time you withdraw if you haven't yet. Enter the account holder's name, the sort code (6 digits) and the account number (8 digits), tick the box to confirm you're authorised to use the account, and save it.

For your security, we only send withdrawals to an account in your own name. Our team checks every new bank account before you can withdraw to it here. Until then you'll see We're checking your bank account. Come back to Withdraw Available Cash once it has been checked.

If the app says "We can't add a bank account for you just yet. We'll ask again later.", nothing is lost. You can't withdraw until you've added a bank account, and the app will ask you again.

What happens after you confirm

Every withdrawal is reviewed by our team before payment. This is a security measure that protects your money. Follow yours under Activity on the Portfolio tab: it moves from Submitted to Paid, or shows Payment failed or Rejected if there's a problem.

If the app can't take a withdrawal, it says why. If a message says to contact support, please do. If your password or code is refused, check it and try again; after several wrong attempts you'll need to wait a few minutes.

For information about charges, see Fees in Settings, under Support.

Can I cancel a withdrawal?

There's no way to cancel a withdrawal in the app once you've confirmed it. If you've made a mistake, contact support straight away and we'll do our best to help before the payment is processed.
