With interactivity you can create communication experiences where your audience is no longer a passive viewer but instead has an active role that's more fulfilling, all for free.

With Genially you can create elements of interactivity without programming knowledge in a matter of minutes. One of the biggest advantages is that your audience (students, clients, etc.) will be able to consume an endless amount of content in the same genially: PDFs, videos, maps, surveys, etc. In other words, you won't need to send your audience to another file or web page.  You'll be able to insert an endless amount of content in your geniallys!

In this article, we'll explain:

  • How to access interactivity

  • How to identify if an element has interactivity and what kind it has

  • What the different types of interactivity are

  • How to edit interactivity

How to access interactivity

Finding the interactivity option is easier than ever. Just select an element and click on the hand icon that appears right above it.

How to identify if an element has interactivity and what kind it has

Now, you'll be able to easily identify if an element is interactive by clicking on it. If the hand icon that appears above it is purple, that element has interactivity applied to it.

Plus, when you click on the purple hand icon, you'll be able to see what kind of interactivity has been applied.

What the different types of interactivity are

TIP: to move your audience to action, you can use animations on the elements that are interactive. In this article, you'll be able to find more information about this.

Tool tip: A tool tip is a box that appears when you hover your mouse over an element.  This box can contain images and text.  Tool tips are ideal for short texts with clarifying information.

Window: Windows are boxes that appear when you click on a given element.  Windows offer opportunities to insert enriched content without needing programming skills.

Go to page: This allows you to jump between the pages in your genially in the order you wish.

Link: A link is a hyperlink that redirects users to a different web page.

TIP: the use of hyperlinks is only recommended in cases where you want your audience to leave your genially. Otherwise, it's recommended that you use windows, taking advantage of layers of information.

How to edit interactivity

When you select the option of interactivity for an element, the Editor will open where you can choose the type of interactivity and personalize its content.

In the tool tips and windows, it's possible to include text, images, videos, .pdfs, twitter timelines, maps, graphics, and many other types of content. We invite you to visit the insert section to explore the potential of enriched content that you can insert in a window and tool tip of Genially.
