Troubleshooting cash ISA transfers

ISA transfers between providers can sometimes take a little longer due to technical limitations and differences in processing systems. While we do our best to make the process as smooth as possible, there may occasionally be provider-specific challenges outside our control, so it’s worth keeping the below in mind.

Aviva My Money

Aviva My Money account references begin with 'GS.' If your account has a different reference, it is not an Aviva My Money account, and we are unable to accept it. This is because it is not a cash ISA and we can only accept cash ISA transfers into the Chip Cash ISA.

Coventry Building Society

Coventry Building Society account numbers normally begin with a 0, 9 or 5 and do not start with a letter.

Halifax

We have recently turned on transfers from Halifax. Please ensure you're on the latest version of the Chip app so that a signature will be included on your form, otherwise, you may need to update the app and resubmit.

HSBC

Please ensure you're on the latest version of the Chip app so that a signature will be included on your form, otherwise, you may need to update the app and resubmit.

Moneybox

The reference number should be your National Insurance Number.

Nationwide

All Nationwide ISAs use roll numbers as references in the format 1234/123456789.

Plum

The reference number should be your National Insurance Number.

Skipton Building Society

Skipton ISA account numbers are 9 digits long, but the Chip app currently only allows 8 digits in the account number field. Please enter your reference number in this section instead.

Trading 212

The reference will be your Cash ISA Account ID. This can be found in your Settings in the Trading 212 app and starts with a 3. This should be entered as the roll/reference number when you request your transfer with Chip.

Virgin Money

There are currently two Virgin Money options listed in the Chip app when you request a transfer:

  1. Virgin Money (08 Sort Codes or 12-digit references)

    • Applies to sort codes starting with "08" or 12-digit references (e.g., 12345A-67891)

    • Previously listed as Virgin Money in the app

  2. Virgin Money (05 or 82 Sort Codes)

    • Applies to sort codes starting with "05" or "82"

    • Previously listed as Clydesdale/Virgin Money in the app

    • We previously had a £30,000 transfer limit, but this is no longer the case. If you see an error message, please ensure you're using the latest version of the Chip app before trying again.

If you're having trouble with an ISA transfer, please don't hesitate to reach out to us via the in-app chat (this can be found in the Contact us section on the Profile tab) or via email at hello@getchip.uk and we'll be happy to help.
