Before closing your account

Statements

Have you downloaded any statements you need? You can find them in the Profile tab under Account Statements. If you need a statement for a closed account later, our support team will be able to generate it manually.

Remaining Funds

Have you withdrawn any remaining funds? Please withdraw any remaining balances before requesting account closure.

Pending Deposits

Do you have any pending autosaves/recurring deposits or card deposits? We’ll need to wait for these to clear before proceeding with the closure. Card deposits can take 2–3 working days to process.

Chip Cash ISA

Do you have a Chip Cash ISA open? If you have a cash ISA open and you close your Chip account, you won't be able to open another Chip Cash ISA until the next tax year.

If you've requested an ISA transfer out of Chip, we'll need to wait 15 working days from your request before we can close your account.

Investment Account

Do you have an investment account open? If you have a Stocks and Shares ISA or General Investment Account (GIA) open and you close your Chip account, you won't be able to open an investment account with us again in the future. This applies to both your current profile and any future Chip profiles you might create. We are working with our investment provider to potentially enable account reopening functionality in the future, but this isn't currently guaranteed.

How to close your account

To close your account, go to the Profile tab in the Chip app. Scroll down and tap Delete Account. This will connect you to our Customer Support Team. From there, select Send us a Message, then tap I want to close my Chip account at the bottom of the screen.

Important: Simply uninstalling the Chip app won't close your account – our team must complete the closure for you.

After your account is closed, you won't be able to access the app or any closed accounts. Please follow the on-screen steps carefully, and our team will assist you in finalising the closure.

Leaving feedback

We’re sorry to see you go! If there’s anything we can do to change your mind, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you have a question, concern, or problem that needs sorting, or if you just have feedback to help us improve the Chip experience, please let us know, and we'll be happy to help.

Can I close individual accounts within my Chip account?

Savings accounts

You can't close your Chip Instant Access Account, Chip Easy Access Account, or Prize Savings Account without closing your entire Chip account.

However, you can close your Chip Cash ISA. Just contact our support team to do so. Please note that once your Chip Cash ISA closure has been actioned, you won't be able to open another one with Chip in the same tax year.

Investment accounts

Unless you're within the 30-day cooling-off period after opening your Stocks & Shares ISA, you can't close just this account or your General Investment Account while keeping the rest of your Chip account active.

However, as an alternative, you can withdraw all funds and leave the account dormant. This ensures no actively utilised funds remain, while keeping your investment account open.
