How do I transfer a cash ISA into Chip?

Please see the steps below to transfer your cash ISA to Chip:

  • On the Chip app, go onto the Savings tab, select the Chip Cash ISA, select Transfer and Transfer your ISA to Chip. Please note that you need to have an open Chip Cash ISA before you can request your transfer

  • Confirm the balance of the ISA you want to transfer to Chip (please confirm the whole amount, we're unable to accept partial transfers, unfortunately)

  • Confirm how much you have deposited into your existing cash ISA this tax year

  • Select the provider of the ISA you’re transferring to Chip from the list. If you can’t see your provider, you can register your interest

  • Enter your account number number and sort code or the roll/reference number

  • Enter your address. Please make sure it’s the same address as stated on your existing ISA (it’s okay if this is an old address they just need to match)

  • Check over the details to make sure they’re correct and when you’re happy, tap Confirm ISA transfer

Once you've completed the above, your ISA transfer will be in progress. ISA transfers should be completed within 15 working days. You can track the progress of your ISA transfer in the Savings tab in the Chip Cash ISA section.

Which providers can I transfer a cash ISA from to Chip? Are there any providers you can’t accept cash ISA transfers from?

You will see the full list of providers we accept transfers from when you go through the flow to request your transfer. Unfortunately, if your current provider is not on the list, we won’t be able to support an ISA transfer into Chip currently.

You can find the full list of providers we accept transfers from here.

Please note that there is an option to register your interest and list your current provider if they’re not on the list. We would be grateful if you could still let us know these details as we’re always looking to add new providers and the option to transfer your cash ISA to us may become available in the future.

How long does the cash ISA transfer take?

Cash ISA transfers should be completed within 15 working days.

When will my cash ISA transfer start to earn interest?

Once your transfer is complete and is reflected on your Chip app, the funds will start to accrue interest. Your funds will not accrue interest while your transfer is processing. Transfers can take up to 15 working days to complete.

Can you accept partial cash ISA transfers?

Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept partial ISA transfers.

Is it free to transfer my cash ISA to Chip?

There is no charge from Chip for transferring your ISA. However, it's best to check with your current provider if any charges or exit fees apply if you're unsure.

Will transferring my cash ISA to Chip affect my annual ISA allowance?

If you're transferring from one ISA provider to another during a tax year, it won't affect your £20,000 annual ISA allowance, no.

Why have my funds left my previous provider but aren’t showing on my Chip account?

When you transfer your cash ISA to Chip, the funds are held in a holding account for a few days while we finalise the transfer. While the funds are held with Chip during this time, they won’t be reflected on your Chip app.

The funds will appear in your account within 3 working days of them leaving your previous provider (please note that this can take longer if your previous ISA provider has not provided us with all the details we need to process the transfer). The funds will still be FSCS-protected during this time.

My annual ISA allowance on Chip has been updated

Once you have submitted your ISA transfer request, your ISA allowance on Chip will be updated to reflect the amount of current tax year subscriptions you have made.

This only applies to subscriptions you have made this tax year that are part of the transfer. If you haven’t deposited into your cash ISA this tax year, your allowance will not be updated.

Can I transfer between my Stocks and Shares ISA and my Chip Cash ISA?

Unfortunately, you’re currently unable to transfer between your Chip Cash ISA and your Stocks and Shares ISA. This is because we’re only able to support cash ISA to cash ISA transfers currently.

Can I cancel my request to transfer my cash ISA into Chip?

If you would like to cancel a request to transfer an ISA into Chip, please respond to the email you receive from us which confirms a transfer is in progress and let us know you would like this transfer to be cancelled.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your current provider to request they cancel it on their end or you can reach out to our support team (either via email at hello@getchip.uk or via the in-app chat) and request the transfer is cancelled.

Please bear in mind that we cannot guarantee your cancellation request will be successful. Given that a cash ISA transfer can be processed at any point during the 15 working day timeframe (this is just the maximum timeframe), it may be too late to cancel your transfer by the time you reach out to us.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to us via email at hello@getchip.uk or via the in-app chat (this can be found in the Profile tab) and we’ll be happy to help.
