Guide to import your sales data to your meez menu!

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Importing menu sales data is available to:

  • Plans: Premium Plus

  • Team Members: Account Owner and Managers

Benefits of importing sales data

Unlock essential information in your menu

Importing your sales data can unlock some essential information in your Menu, including Gross Profit, Percentage of Sales, Revenue, and your overall Menu Cost %.

It also unlocks the "Track Variance" feature, where you can see how changes to your sell price or quantity sold will impact your bottom line.

Easily create a new menu

Importing sales data can be used to create new menus and/or menu items. If your menu does not already include an item that is referenced in the import file- we will create it for you, and set the Menu Item Name, Sell Price, and QTY Sold. Note that you will need to go and map the associated ingredients/recipes to any newly created menu items.

Setting up your sales data import file

File requirements

The sales data import file must follow the below:

  • Be a .csv, .xlsx, or .xls file

  • Have only one sheet

  • Be UTF-8 encoded

  • Include a header row in which each column header corresponds to one of supported fields (per the table in the next section). The column headers can be organized in any order without affecting the import

Supported fields

Below are all the supported fields that can be imported into meez via the sales data importer. The field names below are required. You will need to have all column headers included on your file for the import to go through properly. After the headers the information can be empty, but the column headers are required on the import file.

Field name

Value

Notes

Menu Item Name

Required! The name of the menu item (as defined in your meez menu) that should be updated

meez will use this field to determine which menu item to update.

If your menu does not include an item with this name - meez will use the Menu Item ID to try and find the menu item to update.

Menu Item ID

The unique identifier of the menu item that should be updated

meez will use this field to determine which menu item to update, in cases where no match was found using the Menu Item Name field.

For this logic to work, make sure that Menu Item ID matches the value set as the 'Menu item ID number' of the corresponding menu item in your menu.

If your menu does not include a menu item with this ID (and name)- meez will create a new menu item and add it to your menu.

Qty Sold

Required! The number of items sold in this transaction

meez will use this field to calculate the menu item QTY Sold in your menu.

If blank, we will assume a quantity of 1.

Note: to calculate the QTY Sold, we sum up all the 'Qty Sold' values associated with the menu item (any references in the import file that have the same 'Menu Item Name'). That total value will be set as the menu item QTY Sold in your menu.

Net Sales

Required! The net sales for the transaction

meez will use this field to calculate the menu item Sell Price in your menu.

Note: to calculate the Sell Price, we divide the value of the Net Sales field by the value of the Qty Sold field. If your import file includes a few different Sell Prices for the menu item, we will use the average of the variations as the final Sell Price. That final value will be set as the menu item Sell Price in your menu.

Date

Date the transactions happened

If included, we will set the menu's "Sales date range" based on the range of dates in the file.

If you already have data in your menu, the "Menu Item Name" (primarily) and "Menu Item ID" (secondarily) will be used to determine which menu item to update. If no match is found on either of these two fields, a new menu item will be created and added to your menu.

Importing the sales data file

  • To upload your sales data go to the menu you want to import the sales data to

  • On the menu page, click on the three dots at the top center of the screen

  • Click "Import Sales Data"

  • Click "Next" and follow the import instructions

Please be aware that sales data imported will override existing sales quantities for any menu items with a matching menu item name or menu item ID# from the import. Currently, the sales import data will apply to all locations set for this menu.
