Guiding you through the vehicle registration step and the document that is typically approved, as well as what may be considered invalid.

Updated over 3 months ago

As a independent contractor, providing valid proof of vehicle registration is a key requirement for operating your vehicle legally on the road and may be necessary for meeting company or customer compliance standards.

Note: This step may not be required on every onboarding flow through GigSafe.

This will depend on what business you are onboarding with and their requirements.

1. What is Approved Proof of Vehicle Registration?

Official Registration Certificate: The most commonly accepted form of proof is the official registration document issued by your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or similar authority. It includes essential details like vehicle information (make, model, VIN), registration number, and expiration date.

Temporary Registration Tags: In some cases, temporary registration tags or documents issued while waiting for permanent registration can be used, provided they are current and valid.

2. What is Not Approved as Proof of Registration?

Expired Registration Documents: Registration papers that have passed their expiration date are not valid proof. Always ensure your registration is up to date and properly renewed.

Incomplete or Altered Documents: Any registration document that appears to be incomplete, altered, or tampered with will not be accepted. The document must be fully legible and official.

Vehicle Titles or Bills of Sale: While these documents may demonstrate ownership of a vehicle, they are not considered valid proof of registration. Only the official registration from the DMV or issuing authority is acceptable.

Leasing or Rental Agreements: Proof of vehicle registration is separate from leasing or rental agreements, which do not confirm that the vehicle is legally registered with the appropriate authorities.

3. How to Avoid Common Issues with Vehicle Registration Proof

Verify Expiration Dates: Always check the expiration date on your registration and you may want to renew it before it lapses to avoid using outdated documentation.

Keep Copies On Hand: It's a good idea to have a physical copy of your registration in your vehicle, as well as a digital copy if your state permits it.

Request Updates Promptly: If you change vehicles, move to a different state, or make modifications that require re-registration, ensure you update your documents immediately to remain compliant.
