The Usage Editor

Edit and Create usages from the Usage Editor

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

The Usage Editor is where you make changes to the Usages in your current Projects or Templates.

To edit assumptions, click on the Edit Usages button.

It looks like a set of filters or switches.

In Giraffe v6+, add the app to a panel.

The Usages Editor flies out.

You can Open both the Properties palette and the Usage Editor at the same time to see the full story of a selected geometry.

Usage Editor messages

Giraffe shows these toasts at the bottom of the screen when you rename or create a usage.

What to do

""[old usage name]" is still referenced by [app names] — update it/them by hand."

You renamed a usage in the Usage Editor. Giraffe updated your geometries, blocks, and flows to the new name. One or more other apps in the project still use the old name.

Open each app named in the toast and change the old usage name to the new one.

"Usage name is required. / A usage with this name already exists. / Usage name cannot be a number."

You renamed a usage to a blank name, a name already used, or a number.

Enter a name that is not blank, not a number, and not already used.
