Polyline Tool

Draw a multi-point line with unrestricted angles

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

A property line, a road, or a utility run rarely closes into a shape. It just needs to trace a path. Use polyline to create a line with no limit on how many points it has.

  1. Click the Polyline tool in the drawing toolbar, or press L, to draw an open line with no usage applied.

  2. Click to place each point.

  3. Finish by pressing Space or Enter, or by double-clicking your last point once you've placed at least 2 points.

After your first point, hold Shift while placing the next point to snap it to the grid or to a right angle from your last segment. Type a number instead of clicking to set that segment's exact length.

For a simple two-point line instead, use Line in the Generic Shape Tool's picker.
