Edit your property definitions to add more details

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

You've created a custom property, and you realize you need to change something about that property definition.

Here's how.

  1. Open Custom Properties

From the top bar, choose Project, then Advanced, then Custom Properties...

  2. Find Property

Each custom property in the project is listed with its type and description.

  3. Edit Definition

Click the pencil (Edit property) next to the property.

Edit the settings as desired. Click save

Click Add Property at the bottom of the window to create a new custom property.

If the property definition is no longer desired, you can also delete it. Click the bin next to the property, then click Delete.

A deleted property definition is removed from all geometries and usages instantly. it cannot be undone.

Edit a definition from the Usage Table

You can also edit definitions from the Usage Editor. This includes Giraffe Default definitions.

  1. Open the Usage Editor. Click the table icon (Table View) in the Usage Editor header.

  2. Each property is a row in the pinned Property column. Click the 3 dots next to the property name.

  3. Select Edit Definition or Delete Definition.

You can edit most property definitions. Some Giraffe Default definitions are locked due to calculation dependencies. If the definition cannot be edited, you will see "Cannot edit system property definition."
