Connect Microsoft Copilot Cowork to Giraffe via MCP

Let Copilot Cowork read and change your Giraffe project

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Connect Microsoft Copilot Cowork to Giraffe and Cowork can work inside your live project, alongside your Microsoft 365 files, email, and Teams chats. Ask it to pull numbers from an Excel workbook or read a planning PDF in SharePoint, then apply what it finds to your site in Giraffe.

Before you start

Copilot Cowork needs three things in place before it can connect to Giraffe:

  • Copilot credits. Your organization needs Microsoft Copilot credits for the people who use Cowork.

  • Frontier turned on. A Microsoft 365 admin turns on Frontier for each person who uses Cowork. Follow Microsoft's Frontier guide for IT admins.

  • The Giraffe plugin file. Download the Giraffe plugin zip file. Keep it as a zip file. Don't unzip it.

Install the Giraffe plugin in Copilot Cowork

Install the Giraffe plugin once. You can install it yourself, or a Microsoft 365 admin can install it for you.

  1. Open Copilot.

  2. Click +, then Plugins.

  3. Upload the Giraffe plugin zip file you downloaded.

Connect the Giraffe plugin to your project

Connect the Giraffe plugin in your web browser, at copilot.cloud.microsoft/cowork. The Copilot desktop app can't complete this step.

  1. In a saved Giraffe project, open the MCP app in its own panel and click Connect.

  2. In another browser tab, open Copilot Cowork.

  3. Copilot asks you to sign in to Giraffe. Follow the sign-in prompt and approve the connection.

  4. Ask Cowork "Is Giraffe connected?"

What the Giraffe plugin includes

The Giraffe plugin for Copilot Cowork comes with two Giraffe skills, so Cowork makes correct changes through the Giraffe MCP without any extra setup. With them, Cowork:

  • Checks that Giraffe is connected before it starts.

  • Reads your project before it changes anything.

  • Lists each change it plans, with the current and proposed values, and waits for your approval.

  • Makes one change at a time, then reads the project again and reports the result in numbers.

  • Checks each SDK command and its arguments against the official docs.

  • Edits the geometries you draw, and treats the areas and heights Giraffe calculates from them as read-only.

  • Changes a usage when you want many geometries to change at once.

  • Suggests searching the Content Library for a usage, flow, or block that isn't in your project.

You can't add the Giraffe plugin in Copilot

Copilot Cowork needs Copilot credits and Frontier turned on before you can add plugins. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to turn on Frontier for you, using Microsoft's Frontier guide for IT admins.

Cowork says your browser isn't linked

The link from Connect in the MCP app lasts 30 minutes. Click Connect again, then sign in to Giraffe in Cowork right away. Do the sign-in at copilot.cloud.microsoft/cowork in your web browser. The Copilot desktop app can't complete it.
