Involving Your Family in Giving

Updated over a week ago

Add Family Members to your DAF

  1. On the homepage click My Family at the left navigation bar > and under Our Family click Add Members

  2. Enter the family member’s full name, email, and phone number, then select their relation of "Select Member."You can also enter the amount you’d like to allocate to them.

If you choose to grant Head of Household access, that family member will have full access to the platform and see the same view as the primary donor.
If you don’t grant that access, the member will only see the funds allocated to them, without visibility into the full account balance.

The family member's status will show as Not Activated yet until the invite has been accepted.

    1. If the recipient did not receive the invite, you can always click on that family member and Resend Invite button to send another TIFIN Give invitation email.

  3. In the recipient's email inbox, an invitation to join Give will be available for acceptance.

  4. Clicking Get Started will bring the recipient to an input form to create their Giving Account.

After filling in their information, the family member will have their own Give Account and be able to participate in Family Giving Campaigns.

Assigning Different Roles to Family Members

There are two roles you can assign to a family member:

  1. Family Member

  2. Head of Household

If you assign the person as a "family member" they will not have the same access as the current head of household for the DAF. They will only be able to view the giving dollars you've allocated to them and from there they can give those dollars away to a charity of their choice. They will not be able to view the overall DAF balance, make contributions, view other family members, or invite other family members.

If you have a spouse (for example) and they would like to have the same access as you, which includes viewing the overall DAF balance, ability to make contributions, inviting other family members, viewing the family tree - you would need to assign their role as "head of household."

How do I assign different roles to family members during the invite process?

  1. When inviting a new member, you can check the box to designate them as Head of Household. This means they'll be invited with full access to the DAF account, and once they complete their setup, they’ll immediately have the same access as the primary donor.

How to Update an Existing Family Member's Role

  1. Go to the My Family tab.

  2. Click Edit Preferences in the top-right corner.

  3. On the Family Preferences page, scroll down to the Roles & Permissions section.

  4. From there, you can update a family member’s role, including granting Head of Household access.

Once the role is updated, no additional steps are needed. The next time the family member logs in, their updated access will be applied automatically.

Setting up a Family Tree

After the family member has completed the steps above and created their Giving profile, the advisor or Head of Household has the ability to create a family tree.

In the grid view, view all the Family Members including who has accepted the invite and which are still pending. You can always click on that family member and Resend Invite button to send another TIFIN Give invitation email.

Allocate Granting Funds to Family Members

Once a family member accepts your invitation, their status will appear as Accepted.

To allocate funds to a family member:

  1. Hover over their name and click on the member.

  2. Then, click Edit in the top-left corner.

  3. From there, you’ll be able to enter the amount you’d like to allocate to that family member.

Their Annual Giving Goal will update to the newly allocated amount:
