What does "Gateway Reported Error" mean?

Occasionally, you may see a few failed transactions that have the message "Gateway Reported Error."

This does not mean that there was an issue with the donor's card or that your forms are not working; this means that there was an issue on the Payment Gateway's end that caused the transaction to fail.

Gateway Reported Error can happen for a few reasons:

  1. The gateway was undergoing maintenance during the time of the transaction, and was unavailable to process transactions.

  2. The gateway was unexpectedly down.

  3. The gateway's connection timed-out, and it was unable to process the request.

If this happens, check with your gateway provider to see if they are experiencing some downtime or encourage your donors to wait a few minutes before attempting the gift again.
