Create a Test Order

It's always a good idea to see how a customer and recipient will experience your product or gift card gifting flow. Here are some ways of testing Givy out before going live.

Going through the entire gifting experience is a great way to catch issues, and to fully understand how gifting works with Givy.

Gift Card Gifting Test

Note that we cannot create a gift card with no value (ie. $0) on Shopify. If you purchase a gift card with no value, it will not be created successfully.

  • In Givy:

    • Open Settings > Fraud Protection

    • Uncheck the option to Flag gift cards discounted with a discount code
      ​

  • In Shopify:

    • Open the Discounts page

    • Create a 100% off discount code

    • Limit its use to 1 time, and choose the gift card product as the valid product
      ​

  • On your store:

    • Open the gift card product page

    • If custom amounts are enabled, select a custom gift card amount

    • Click the Sent as Gift button

    • Choose Email as the send method (recommended)

    • Enter all the gift details, and add it to the cart

    • At checkout, enter your discount code, and complete the checkout
      ​

  • Things to look for

    • Check the email sent to the recipient to ensure it matches your brand

    • Click the link to redeem your gift card and ensure it works as expected

    • In Givy, open the Gifts page and confirm that it appeared
      ​

  • Wrapping it up

    • Go back to the Fraud Protection settings page, and check the option to flag gift cards purchased with discount codes (recommended)

    • In Givy, delete the gift card that was created so that it's no longer active
