Virtual Roles on Switchboard

At Switchboard, we are always looking for new ways to connect believers around the world and facilitate collaboration for the Kingdom. One of our latest features is virtual roles, which allow Great Commission Organizations (GCOs) to request volunteers with specific skillsets to help with their mission.

Virtual Role Connection Milestones

  1. A Great Commission organization (GCO) creates and lists an opportunity on Switchboard

  2. A Kingdom Consultant (KC) applies to that role

  3. The GCO agrees to connect with the KC for an exploratory call

  4. The KC and GCO schedule a time to meet

  5. The KC and GCO confirm that they met

  6. The KC indicates an interest in working together (some KCs may not be interested in proceeding after this step)

  7. The GCO confirms (some GCOs may not be interested in proceeding after this step) and activates the virtual role for a 30 day trial period

The KC and GCO may decide to either (1) continue to work together after that trial period or (2) stop working together after that trial period.

How Virtual Roles Work

Great Commission organizations can create and list virtual roles on Switchboard, specifying the required skills and time commitment (a few hours per week or per month). These roles are then featured and promoted to our community of Kingdom Consultants (KCs), who are volunteers on our platform.

Interested KCs can apply to these roles, and the GCO will receive an email notification when an application is received. The GCO can then review the application and decide whether to connect with the Kingdom Consultant for an exploratory call.

The Exploratory Call

If the GCO accepts the KC, the next step is to schedule an exploratory call. This one-hour call is facilitated by Switchboard and allows the GCO and KC to get to know each other and discuss the role in more detail. It's a great opportunity for both parties to determine if there is a good fit.

After the call wraps up, Switchboard will send a message to both the KC and the GCO asking them to confirm that they met for the exploratory call.

If the KC is interested in filling the role, they can indicate their interest. The GCO then confirms by activating the role, and the KC and GCO can start collaborating on the virtual role.

30 Day Trial Period

After the Great Commission organization and Kingdom Consultant have activated their virtual role, Switchboard fades out of the picture. Meet together regularly, pray with each other, share files, updates, and resources.

After that 30 day trial period wraps up, the GCO and KC will get a notification from Switchboard. Both users will need to make a decision:

  1. Let's keep working together next month!

  2. Let's keep working together, but we need to modify the role a bit.

  3. I don't think we should keep working together.

If either the KC or the GCO isn't interested in working again the next month, no worries!

  1. If the KC simply cannot fill that role going forward, we make it super simple for the GCO to relist that need so another volunteer can fill that role.

  2. If the GCO no longer wants to collaborate around that role going forward, the KC will have easy access to new opportunities to serve.

There are lots of reasons why a relationship may not work out. Maybe the KC got sick, the GCO no longer needs that particular need filled, or your personalities weren't a good fit. There's no shame in continuing to pursue other opportunities. We recommend you both send a thank you note or note of encouragement as the trial period comes to a close.

Wrapping Up

Switchboard introduces virtual roles, empowering Great Commission Organizations to connect with Kingdom Consultants for collaborative missions. The process, from creating opportunities to a 30-day trial period, fosters meaningful connections and impactful work for the Kingdom. Whether extending partnerships or gracefully concluding them, Switchboard facilitates a seamless experience, ensuring every interaction contributes to the Great Commission.
