You know your Virtual Role Request needs to be doable, realistic, and inspiring. Here are some points to consider when writing your Virtual Role Request along with a real-life example of a request for a proofreader to edit videos.

Five tips to consider when writing your Virtual Role:

  1. 📣 Give the role a compelling title. You can often combine the skill name with the "cause" your mission supports—for example, Website Design for Child Advocacy or SEO for Church Plants. You can also add a catchy intro question ("Do you have a passion for sharing the gospel and an eye for detail?") to relate to your potential applicant.

  2. 👭 Explain your mission and what you do. Volunteers are inspired to partner with ministries that serve a cause, in a region, or with a people group that is close to their heart.

  3. 📝 Summarize the request, including the resources you will provide.

  4. ✅ Clearly state the responsibilities and qualifications needed. The mention of an AI tool might cause a volunteer to think there is technical expertise required. The qualification section makes it very clear that the volunteer needs a working computer and eye for detail.

  5. 🔦 Highlight how this can benefit the volunteer or how this task contributes to your ministry's mission.

We know some GCOs love to use the AI feature to create their roles. This is great! Just take a moment to review the final output to ensure it contains the components above.

Below is an example of a well-written Virtual Role request:

Title:

Detail-Oriented Proofreader with a Passion for Sharing the Gospel

Summary:

Do you have a passion for sharing the gospel and an eye for detail?

If so, we want to partner with you! ABC Missions Institute trains and equips committed Filipino believers to become effective regional church planters. Join us in equipping the church planters with the tools they need!

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a detail-oriented volunteer to validate English subtitles for Bible training videos to ensure 100% accuracy. Your contribution in this role is very important to our mission. The Bible training videos are from https://thirdmill.org/seminary. We used AI technology to accomplish most of the work with 95% accuracy, but we need a volunteer with a keen eye to perfect and finalize the subtitles. AI did the heavy lifting, but we must review the subtitles and catch and correct any errors before we publish the videos. No experience in video editing is needed!

The volunteer:

1. needs to have a Windows or Apple computer
2. needs to be fluent in English
3. needs an eye for detail

***Bonus: You will learn a lot about the Bible and Theology just by doing this task AND play an important role in getting our church planters the tools they need***
