New to Elate: Hierarchy Table View

Discover a new and improved way to visualize your strategic plan in Elate.

Updated over a week ago

Introducing the Hierarchy Table View

You’ve asked, we’ve delivered! Elate’s new & improved Hierarchy view is here. Introducing a beautiful, intuitive new way to visualize your entire strategic plan in one view, from Themes, Objectives, Tactics, and Outcomes.

Plus, Org Admins are now able to drag & drop items to seamlessly rearrange items in a priority that makes the most sense to you.

Read on to learn the ins and outs of the new feature.

How to Access the Hierarchy Table View

First, navigate to your Company Page and select “Hierarchy”. You should start by seeing the old hierarchy view. To access the table view, select the tree icon in the upper right-hand side to switch to the table view.

Note: Want to see the table view as your default? Don’t worry! Elate will remember the view you last selected and will set that as your default for the next time.

Tree Icon:

The Hierarchy Table View will show like this, highlighting your Themes first.

To see more of your plan, click each item to expand as you go. Underneath each Objective you will find any connected Tactics, and Outcomes, and Child Objectives, which will be "nested" underneath the Parent Objective.

Note: Take note of the date range in the upper right as well, as this will impact what shows on your Hierarchy Table view.

In this example, "Reach 115% Net Retention" is an Objective that has the status of “Behind”. It has an Outcome (indicated by the blue outcome icon) of “Churn” that is 0% to its goal, and a Tactic of “Launch of Loyalty Program” that is 100% complete.

Nested underneath that objective is its Child Objective: "Increase Upsell Opportunities by Delivering a Consistent Brand Experience". This Child Objective has a Tactic of “Relaunch Customer Journey” that is 75% complete.

How to Rearrange on Hierarchy

Rearranging the Hierarchy is only available to Org Admins, since this could potentially involve making changes to your Strategic Plan as a whole.

To Edit your Plan and View, select the pencil in the upper right-hand corner.

Drag & drop handles should now appear on your Hierarchy view. Use those to drag & drop Objectives, Outcomes, & Tactics as shown in this video.

In the above example, the Child Objective “Increase Upsell Opportunities by Delivering a Consistent Brand Experience” was moved out from underneath its Parent Objective, removing the parent-child relationship entirely and restructuring the plan. Then, the order for the final two objectives were swapped.

It’s important to note that dragging and dropping to change the relationships of objects (such as new parent or child objectives created by “nesting” items, or dragging outcomes underneath a different objectives, etc.) will result in those relationships changing across your entire plan and Elate instance, including the other hierarchy view.

Be sure to click "Save" in the upper right to save your changes!
