Closing Your Objectives

Easily rate objective success and review historical performance in Elate.

Updated over 9 months ago

As the duration for your objectives comes to an end, you will be prompted to close them in Elate. You will be asked if the objective was successful, what you would rate the objective, and are able to provide commentary or context. This will allow you and your team to review performance around each objective more easily.

This provides an easy way for the whole team to see past performance and to learn what you can do to improve moving forward. Additionally, closing objectives allows you and your team to transition between objective cycles more effectively.

How To Close Objectives

Navigate to your objective. Next, click the three dot menu and “Close Objective.”

When closing your objective, you have the opportunity to communicate to the rest of your team how the objective went. The three questions you need to answer to close your objective are:

  • Would you consider this objective a success?

  • On a scale of 1 to 5, how well did your objective go?

  • Anything else you want to document about this objective’s success?

After you close out your objective, Elate users will now be able to see answers to the questions on the objective, allowing you to track history on important objectives for the company.

Re-opening Objectives

If you close an objective by accident or simply want to re-open an objective after closing it, all you need to do is click on the three-dot menu of the objective again and select "Re-open Objective" from the drop down list.

All information about the objective will stay the same. However, when you are ready to close out the objective again, you'll need to re-answer the close out questions including the commentary.

Finding Closed Objectives

As mentioned in the beginning, closing objectives helps your team plan more efficiently for future quarters or years. It's a chance to see what worked well and where risks could lie for the future. As you're taking this into account it may be helpful to see objectives that have been closed.

To find objectives that have been closed, navigate to the Plan Execution table using the left side panel. From here, you're able to select the dropdown next to Active Objectives and select Closed Objectives.

Please note that the objectives that will be displayed are based on the duration set in the top right corner. You are able to click into the duration to change this to fiscal year, half year, quarter, or month view and tab forward or back in duration.

You will now see the objectives that fall into the duration set that have been closed. You are also able to see the objective rating and if it was a success or not. If you click into an objective, you're able to see any commentary left from the closeout process as well as the historical information from the objective.
