Connecting Microsoft Teams in Elate

Learn how to connect Microsoft Teams and Elate to simplify objective updates!

Connecting Elate and Microsoft Teams simplifies how you and your entire team can update objectives in Elate. We'll walk through how to connect Microsoft Teams to Elate for your organization and how to use Microsoft Teams and Elate together.

Elate and Microsoft Teams allow your team to make updates where they already work. There is a combination of reminders that are sent out automatically, as well as reminders that Admins can manually send.

How to Connect Microsoft Teams and Elate

Important: To install the Microsoft Teams plugin to Elate, you need to be an Administrator in Microsoft Teams.

Here is a short video walking through the steps below:

To begin, navigate directly to Elate’s Microsoft AppSource listing. From this page, you will click “Get It Now” to connect Microsoft Teams and Elate.

Once you've done this, navigate to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. Using the left side panel, select Team Apps. From the dropdown, select Permission Policies.

On the App Permission Policies page, select Global (Org-wide default).

You will now be taken to the Global (Org-wide default) page. Under Third-party Apps, select Allow Apps.

From the panel that pops up on the right hand side, search for Elate in the search box. Once you find it, select the Add button next to it.

Once you select add, it will appear under the Apps to Add section. At the bottom of the panel, select the Allow button.

You will now be taken back to the Global (Org-wide default) page. The Elate app will now appear under the Third-party App section. Select the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Please note, this can take up to 72 hours for Microsoft to recognize this policy change. After the 72 hour period, all MS Teams users in the organization that connected to Elate, should see the Elate app in their MS Teams app.

How to Use Microsoft Teams and Elate Together

Now that Microsoft Teams and Elate have been connected, your team is able to simplify how they give status updates on their objectives!

This happens with automated and manual reminders that go directly through Microsoft Teams.

Automated Reminders

Status Reminder

Elate sends a reminder to users who need to update the status of their objectives in Elate. This reminder helps your team stay on top of their objectives, giving them a simple way to update their objective in Microsoft Teams.

If you have an organization role of Admin in Elate, you can see the frequency that this reminder will be sent in the Company Management - Messaging Tab.

If you own objectives in Elate, you will see the below automated reminders from Microsoft Teams. The objectives you own will be listed, and you can click on each objective listed to provide an update.

Clicking into an objective will allow you to update the status, add any relevant commentary, and update the key results if they are manually updated. Once you've made the relevant changes, select Submit.

Closing Reminder

Elate sends an automated reminder through Microsoft Teams to users who need to close their objectives in Elate.

If you have an organization role of Admin in Elate, you can see the frequency that this reminder will be sent in the Company Management - Messaging Tab.

Users that own objectives in Elate will see the below automated close reminders from Microsoft Teams.

If you're the objective owner, you will receive the below notification in Microsoft Teams, where you're able to click into the objective to say if it was successful or not, rate it on a scale of 1-5, and add any relevant commentary or context!

Advanced Report Scheduled Sends

Elate will send a Microsoft Teams notification for Advanced Reports that have a recurring send scheduled. These will only be sent to the specific Teams or Users that have been included in the send.

The notifications in Microsoft Teams will send a link allowing for easy viewing of the report.

Manual Reminders:

Users with an Organization Role of Admin in Elate can send reminders to their team to update the status of an objective and to close an objective. Additionally, mentioning a user in a comment in Elate will also send them a notification.

Nudge to Update Status

From the Plan Execution tab, Admins can select objectives in this table and select Nudge > Update Status. This will send a reminder to the objective owner to provide a status update.

The objective owner will receive this notification in Microsoft Teams, where they can click into an objective to update the status, add any relevant commentary, and update the key results if they are manually updated.

Nudge to Close

From the Plan Execution tab, Admins can select objectives in this table and select Nudge > Close Objective. This will send a reminder to the objective owner that they need to close out their objective and give it a rating.

The objective owner will receive the below notification in Microsoft Teams, where they can click into the objective to say if it was successful or not, rate it on a scale of 1-5, and add any relevant commentary or context!

Tagging a User in a Comment

A Microsoft Teams notification will be sent to users who are tagged in a comment in Elate.

If you're tagged in a comment, you will see a preview of the comment, with the ability to click “View Comment” to see where the comment is in Elate.

Use the Check In Feature

At any time you can type "Check in" to update any objectives you own, if needed.

In the same way as above, you can click into these objectives and provide a status update!

Commonly Asked Questions

Q: Will I be able to review any reports I am sent in Teams?

A: You will only receive the link to view the report in Teams, you will still need to click on the link to navigate to the report.
