Guide to Outcomes in Elate

Learn how to use outcomes to power objectives in Elate!

Bring real-time insights to your objectives by using outcomes in Elate! Using outcomes allows your team to monitor an objective’s progress by tracking real-time business metrics that directly impact your success.

Think of outcomes as the data and metrics powering your objective. For example, a Sales Team with an objective to “Exceed $20M in ARR” would likely use New ARR as a key outcome to track their progress along the way.

Adding an Outcome to an Objective

To add an outcome to an objective, navigate to an objective and open the objective detail page.

From here, select the blue +Add Outcome button in the right corner. From here, you are able to enter the name of your outcome, assign a team responsible, owner(s), and select which visual you would like to add.

You are now able to select Create in the bottom right corner. Your outcome will now be on your objective.

Updating Your Outcome

Now that you created your outcome, you're able to update it with your data!

On your objective detail page, select the Update button under your outcome.

A modal will open showing you the cadence your outcome is being tracked as well as sections for you to set goals and update the current numbers.

Once you are happy with the cadence and goals, hit the blue Save button in the bottom right corner. Your outcome should now reflect the changes you just made.

Updating the Properties of Your Outcome

If you need to update the type of graph or currency format of your outcome, simply click the 3 dot menu on your outcome and select Edit Properties.

You will now be able to edit any of the following information for your outcome:

Once you have made your changes, hit the blue Save button in the bottom right corner. Your outcome will now reflect the changes you made!

Outcome Details Page

Now that you created your outcome, you are able to use the Analyze and Collaborate functions to get a more detailed view of your outcome.

Analyze Your Outcome

On your objective detail page, click the Analyze button below your outcome

This will open a more detailed modal for your outcome. This includes a description for the outcome, the team responsible, the owner(s), tags, the visual for the outcome, objective status and performance for objectives that impact this outcome, and a section to see which objectives are impacting this outcome. If your outcome is being pulled in using an integration, you'll notice the icon for the source at the top as well.

Collaborate on Your Outcome

Do you want to add commentary to a specific outcome or look at the activity history of a specific outcome? Use the Collaborate tab!

On the outcome details page, select the Collaborate tab at the top. Here you're able to add commentary and see the activity history for the outcome!

Linking Outcomes to Objectives

If you need to have the same outcome in multiple objectives you are able to link them instead of duplicating the outcome!

To link outcomes, navigate to the objective you want to link an outcome to and select the blue Link Outcome button.

You will then be prompted to select the outcome you want to link. Recent outcomes will show but you are also able to search by name in the top left hand corner. Select the outcome you want to link and hit the blue Link button.

This outcome will now be populated on your objective.

Linking Outcomes to Scorecards

If you have outcomes that are consistently top of mind and you want easy visibility into, link them to a scorecard! This allows you to have one spot where you're able to see all the important outcomes for a specific team or for the company.

To do this, navigate to a specific team scorecard or company scorecard and select the blue Link Outcome button in the top right.

You will then be prompted to find the outcome you want to link. You are able to see recent outcomes if you have any or are able to search for the outcome by name.

Select the outcome you want to link and then hit the blue Link button in the bottom corner. Your outcome will now be linked to your scorecard!

Outcomes Library

The Outcome Library will house all outcomes throughout the account that are available to a given user, providing the ability to:

  • Monitor performance in one view

  • Analyze the relationship and impact across objectives

  • Add owners on individual outcomes

To find the Outcome Library, navigate to the Plan Execution tab on the left hand panel. From here, select the Outcomes tab on the top of the page.

You are now able to see all of your outcomes!

If you would like to filter your outcomes, select the blue filter icon in the top right.

From here, you are able to select your filter criteria to see exactly what is important to you!

Assigning an Outcome Owner

Need to assign an owner to a specific outcome? Navigate to the Outcome Library in the Plan Execution tab!

From here, click into an outcome and enter the name(s) of the owner(s) in the Owners section on the right hand side.

In the example above, any user with a Team Role of Team Owner or Team Member on the Sales team will be able to edit the outcome, along with Leslie Knope.

Commonly Asked Questions

Q: I need a progress bar to measure if a task is complete or not. Where can I find a progress bar instead of charts?

A: You can find a progress bar under the Tactics section on the Objective Detail page. For more information, check out our Guide to Tactics!

Q: Can I hide an outcome on an objective?

A: Yes! If you need to hide an outcome on an objective, navigate to your objective detail page. Select the 3 dot menu on the outcome and select the Hide button. You are also able to hide outcomes on scorecards by navigating to the scorecard and hitting the 3 dot menu from there. Please note your outcome can still be found in the Outcome Library but will be hidden in the specific place you hid it.

Q: Can I delete outcomes?

A: Yes, as long as you have the permission level of Admin. To delete outcomes that appear in multiple places, navigate to the Outcome Library in the Plan Execution tab. From here, you are able to search for the outcome you want to delete. Simply click on the 3 dot menu for the outcome and select Delete. You will then get a pop up asking you to confirm you want to delete the outcome. Select the red Delete button and your outcome will now be deleted. If you want to delete an outcome that is only connected to one objective, you are able to delete it directly from that objective by selecting the 3 dot menu in the top right corner of the outcome, and selecting Delete.

Q: If I have outcomes linked in multiple places and I update one, will it update to the other locations?

A: Yes! If you update your outcome in one spot and it is linked in multiple objectives or scorecards, the update will be reflected in all locations.
