How GoGet works

GoGet is based on usage rates, so how much a particular trip costs depend on which plan you’re on, how long you need the vehicle for, and how far you drive. Find out which plan is right for you here.

To get the minimum cost of a booking, first map your trip out to judge how long you’ll need and how far you’ll be driving, then check out our current rates. If it’s a one-off trip, you’ll need to factor in any relevant joining or membership fees too.

What is the day rate?

The day rate is a flat rate that includes up to 24 hours and 100kms. The system automatically works out what rate to use to get you the cheapest booking.

Usually, the day rate will be applied at the time of booking, based on the hours you have booked. However, other things can kick you over onto the day rate.

  • If you drive far enough, the system will work out that the distance charge would make it better off if you were on the day rate, and move you over

  • If you extend your booking for long enough, the system will make sure the hourly rate won’t put you over your day rate

The point at which the hourly rate goes into the day rate depends on your plan, and which car you’re driving. You can view the hourly and daily rates of different plans here.

Here's an example of the day rate:

Important: For the day rate to be applied, bookings and any extensions must be consecutive. Separate multiple bookings throughout the day will not trigger the day rate to be applied.

Examples

Dropping the kids off to school

For example, a parent needs to drop their kids off to school. The school is 5km away, so it's 10km all up. And the parent only needs the car for one hour. Using a small hatchback on the GoFrequent Plan:

  • hours for booking + km's driven + tolls

  • (1h x $7.80) + (10km x $0.48) + $0 = $12.60

Doing the monthly grocery shop

For example, your local supermarket is 2km away, and you typically spend 2 and a half hours from getting into the car to loading the last carton of milk into the fridge. Using an SUV on the GoOccasional Plan:

  • hours for booking + km's driven + tolls

  • (2.5h x $14.30) + (4km's x $0.48) + $0 = $37.67

Day trip out of town

For example, a day trip to Gosford could start at 9am and finish by 9pm (12 hours). Driving from Sydney to Gosford is 84 km each way, so 168km altogether. Using a small hatchback on the GoStarter plan, the cost of this trip would be:

  • hours for booking + km's driven + tolls

  • (12h x $12.20) + (168km x $0.48) + $12 = $239.04

Luckily, our system automatically switches to the Day Rate if it's cheaper for you! Our day rate also already covers 100km, so you only pay $0.35 for any extra km's.

The actual cost of this trip when switched to the day rate becomes:

  • day rate + extra km's over 100km + tolls

  • $104 + (68km x $0.35) + $12 = $139.80

Using a Van on the GoVan plan

Many members use our GoVan plan for those once-off days where you need to move something big, because GoVan has no membership fees.

Let's say that someone needs to do an IKEA round trip in a medium van - 10kms there and back, for 3 hours. On the GoVan plan:

  • hours for booking + km's driven + tolls

  • (3h x $19.40) + (20km's x $0.48) + $0 = $67.80

People often book vans for the entire day if they're moving or taking stock to the markets. Day rates apply to vans too, under any plan.
