This guide walks you through connecting Goodword to Claude Desktop using MCP (Model Context Protocol).

Takes about 2 minutes. You'll need a Goodword account before you begin.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools. The steps in this guide are specific to Claude Desktop — support for other AI apps is coming.

Before You Start

  • A Goodword account

  • Claude Desktop installed on your computer

Part 1: Install the Goodword MCP

Step 1 — Download the plugin

Sign into Goodword and go to Account Settings. Click Download next to the Claude Plugin.

Step 2 — Generate your API key

Still in Account Settings, click Generate API Key. Copy the key and keep it handy — you'll need it in the next step.

⚠️ Treat your API key like a password. Don't share it with anyone.

Step 3 — Connect the MCP to Claude

Click the plugin file you downloaded in Step 1 — this will open the Goodword MCP installer inside Claude Desktop. Then:

  1. Click Install

  2. Enter your API key when prompted

  3. Once installation is complete, click the grey toggle to Enable the integration

⚠️ Windows Store users: If clicking the file doesn't launch the installer, open Claude Desktop manually and go to Settings → Extensions → Install from file, then select the downloaded file.

Part 2: Install the Goodword Skills (Optional)

Skills guide Claude through multi-step Goodword workflows like Network Review, Meeting Prep, and Debrief. They're not required, but they make the experience significantly smoother.

Step 1 — Download the Skills zip file

From Goodword Account Settings, download the Skills zip file.

Step 2 — Extract the zip file

Once downloaded, extract the zip file. You'll find individual skill files inside — one for each skill.

Step 3 — Upload each skill to Claude

In Claude, go to Settings → Customize → Skills. Upload each skill file one at a time — Claude expects one skill per upload.

⚠️ Don't re-zip the files together. Each skill must be uploaded individually or it won't install correctly.

Step 4 — Confirm everything is working

Start a new conversation with Claude and try: "Show me my Goodword recommendations." If Claude responds with your data, you're all set.

You can also type / in the chat to browse available skills like Network Review, Meeting Prep, and Debrief.

What You Can Do

Once connected, just ask Claude naturally. Here's what's available:

  • Search contacts and pull up full profiles

  • Review notes, reminders, and interaction timelines

  • Get AI-powered relationship recommendations

  • Log meetings and debrief after calls

  • Organize your network into groups

  • Facilitate introductions

Goodword adds 19 tools total — all accessible through normal conversation.

Troubleshooting

  • MCP not connecting? Double-check that your API key was copied correctly with no extra spaces.

  • Skills not appearing? Make sure you extracted the zip first and uploaded each skill file individually.

  • Extension installed but not responding? Make sure the grey Enable toggle is turned on in Claude Desktop's Extensions settings.

  • Still stuck? Reach out to the Goodword support team — we're here to help.
