You only pay for a gift when your recipient has accepted your gift.

When you send a gift, we'll send your recipient a text with your card and gift, and allow them to enter their shipping address.

Once they've accepted, you'll receive a push notification or text saying your gift is "ready for checkout", and you'll see your final total and you can pay for your gift.
