We are permanently ending support for the TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 protocols. Given their age and the number of vulnerabilities, they are no longer considered secure, and their use has been discouraged for some time.
Check your payment gateway integration
Verify that your solution is compatible with TLS 1.2 and that you are using appropriate ciphers. If you are not sure, do consult your developers. If your integration is not ready in time, services will most likely be interrupted and customers will not be able to pay for goods or services.
💡 GoPay tip:
Check your server configuration at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest, where you will also find compatibility with common operating systems and web browsers.
What does this mean for payers?
Almost no paying customer will be affected by this restriction. Hardly anyone on the web still uses either of the outdated protocols, and modern supported operating systems and browsers also run on TLS 1.2, or even 1.3.
Key dates
1 June 2022 – support for outdated TLS protocols ended in the integration environment
1 February 2023 – we are switching off support for outdated TLS protocols in production
What exactly is SSL/TLS?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) are cryptographic protocols that allow data to be transferred securely over the public internet. On the web, these protocols have two basic roles:
Encrypting communication and verifying the integrity of data transferred between the client and the server.
Verifying that the browser is communicating with the correct server. In practice this means verifying that the domain owner is the same as the owner of that server.
