Vehicle Class Frequently Asked Questions

Please take a look at the following answers to frequently asked questions about the Vehicle Class feature.

Question

Answer

Will Vehicle Class automatically update for existing vehicles?

No. Existing vehicles will keep their current configurations. Users can manually update Vehicle Class for individual vehicles or use a bulk upload (available to Enterprise customers or customers with the Advanced Administration Add-on) to apply changes across their fleet.

Can I create my own custom Vehicle Classes?

Not at this time. The available options are Light-duty, Medium-duty, and Heavy-duty. However, users can still customize g-force thresholds to fit unique needs.

Automated Vehicle Class from Vehicle Registration – Is this the same as full VIN decoding?

No. Vehicle Class detection uses supported data and standards to classify vehicles by type, but it’s not a complete VIN decoding service that includes make, model, or weight details.

Will thresholds automatically adjust if I change the Vehicle Class later?

Yes, users can change the Vehicle Class at a later time after vehicle registration, and the system will update the configuration of the device based upon the Vehicle Class chosen.

Does Vehicle Class affect other configurations, like maintenance or fuel settings?

No. Vehicle Class only impacts g-force thresholds for driving behavior events. Other configurations remain unchanged.
