Section 1: Overview
1. To begin, open your Brand Keyword Search dashboard app. You'll find yourself on the Overview page, where you can identify large keywords.
2. First, notice the filters in your Filters tab. You can leverage these filters to analyze Google data.
3. This is where you'll find keyword search volumes, share of searches, and weighted average cost per click.
You can see that the table currently reflects the keyword parent table, which is synonymous with institution names.
4. If you select the Keyword Detail table, you will see the actual phrases being looked up.
Keyword parents and keyword details are related. For example, the phrase "usc" belongs to the University of Southern California.
5. Our next step is to locate large keywords.
Simply use the available filters to specify the University or geography that interests you.
6. For example, I'll filter for the state of Texas.
7. Click the checkmark to confirm your selection.
8. Now, your overview page reflects brand phrases that are growing within the state of Texas.
9. To filter by brand, select the Keyword Parent filter. For this example, I'll search for Western Governors University.
10. Click the checkmark to confirm your selection.
11. Now, here are the Google search results being looked up in Texas specifically concerning Western Governors University.
Section 2: Phrase Trends
12. Navigate to the Trends tab.
13. Note: Remember your filters will follow you across tabs.
You can also hover over those filters to see their details.
14. Now, to see how Western Governors University trends across different states, I've removed the Texas (TX) filter by simply clicking the 'X' next to it.
15. You can now view how Western Governors University and its keyword detail search volume trend across the United States.
Similar to the program keyword dashboard, you can view this by metric..
16. and by dimension
A dimension is a category and a metric is what you want to measure within those categories.
17. Select State
18. The table displays which states had the most total search volume for Western Governors University.
Section 3: Data Table
19. Lastly, let's navigate to the Data Table tab.
20. The data table relies on your selections to build the view you want.
21. The first items to select are within Dimensions.
22. In this example, select Year and Keyword Detail. Click the checkmark to confirm your selections.
23. Next, we will select the data point associated with the dimensions.
24. We're going to select Searches, Cost Per Click, and Competition Index. Select the checkmark to confirm your selections.
25. The table reflects your filters, displaying keyword detail search volume, Cost per Click, and Competition Index for Western Governors University, sorted from high to low for each respective year.
26. To export this table, simply right-click within the table and select 'Export Data to Excel'.
27. Click Download to export.
