Carbon accounting is a constantly evolving science, and assessing carbon sinks remains a complex challenge. At Green Nation, we rely on studies conducted on mangrove ecosystems in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Eastern Canada to estimate our carbon sequestration rate.
We take several variables into account:
Planted species (tree maturity age)
Forest type
Region
Average tree survival rate
Carbon sequestration is first calculated per hectare, including:
Aboveground carbon (leaves, biomass, stumps)
Belowground carbon (roots, debris)
Soil carbon (carbon stored in the ground)
These data then allow us to estimate carbon sequestration per tree, based on planned planting densities. When primary data is unavailable, Veritree applies a cautious approach, using secondary databases or conservative assumptions to avoid overestimation.
We continuously refine our estimates with data collected directly in the field and through collaboration with academic researchers specializing in carbon sink evaluation.
🌱 All trees planted by Green Nation are in partnership with Veritree.
