Our co-founders were astonished, even scared, by the discrepancy between the current global worry surrounding climate change and the small amount of people taking steps to truly change their daily routines, as if somebody else had to make the required efforts. This lack of short-term incentive to change one's lifestyle in order to prevent long-term problems seemed to us like something we had encountered before. Before, Alexis (CEO) and Matthieu (CTO) worked at Withings, leaders in health related IT equipment, where we helped people change their habits to look after their health on the long run.

We wanted to do the exact same thing with Greenly: enrich the daily lives of people and companies with a transparent measurement of their real ecological impact, and base ourselves upon this renewed consciousness in order to promote a more ecological lifestyle. That is when we realized that a majority of greenhouse gas emissions came from expenses, and that we could thus measure them automatically by securely synchronizing bank accounts with our solution. All that was left to do was implementing the right kind of personal dashboard to incentivize commitment to ecological transition!
