Using Greenly's LCA platform, you can create comprehensive assessments of your products, encompassing materials, production processes, and all lifecycle stages. You can then analyze each step to pinpoint the most emissions-intensive aspects.

Furthermore, you will also be able to compare emissions across your product inventory, enabling informed decision-making for reducing carbon footprints and enhancing sustainability efforts.

To learn more about Life Cycle Analysis, we invite you to take a look at our article.

The Dashboard page serves as the central hub, providing you with easy access to your tasks and facilitating seamless collaboration.

Modelling

The LCA modeling homepage is where the journey towards sustainability begins.

1. Create your product:

To visualize your products' emissions, you are presented with two primary options:

  • Create a product step by step and make it a template;

  • Use one of our templates.

Starting from scratch or using our pre-existing templates, you can initiate LCAs tailored to your specific needs. The platform offers you a directory of templates, including both standardized and customizable models, simplifying the LCA creation process and accelerating the analysis.

Either way, you will have the following tabs :

Product information

Here, you can define essential information about your products, such as name and tags, simplifying search and identification processes.

Then click on "Save".

Product Lifecycle

This pivotal stage involves delineating the product's life cycle, encompassing five primary steps:

  1. Raw Materials: Assessing the environmental impact of raw material extraction sets the foundation for sustainable sourcing practices.

  2. Transformation: Analyzing the processes involved in transforming raw materials into the end product highlights areas for optimization and efficiency improvement.

  3. Freight: Evaluating the carbon footprint associated with transportation sheds light on supply chain sustainability and logistics optimization opportunities. **

  4. Usage: Understanding how customers interact with the product provides insights into usage patterns and opportunities for eco-friendly design improvements.

  5. End of Life: Addressing the environmental implications of product disposal and material management is crucial for implementing effective recycling and waste reduction strategies.

For each of these steps, you can associate an emission factor by clicking on "Add an activity". The integrated search function further enhances accessibility, allowing you to easily manage our product catalog. Read more about it further down this article.

Product Footprint

This tab allows you to visualize the environmental impact of your products at each stage, facilitating informed decision-making. You can export comprehensive reports for internal analysis and external communication.

Comparison

The comparison feature empowers you to benchmark the environmental performance of different LCAs, facilitating data-driven decision-making and guiding eco-design initiatives.

2. The Emission Factor search bar

Emission factors (EFs) serve as the cornerstone for conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) when direct impact measurements are unavailable for an activity, process, or raw material. With tens of thousands of EFs available, navigating through this vast database can often prove to be a daunting task. However, at Greenly, we recognize the importance of streamlining this process to facilitate efficient and accurate decision-making in sustainability assessments.

On the platform, all you need to do is input your search query, and our advanced algorithm will identify the most accurate and pertinent EFs for your analysis.

You can use the different filters in place such as the unit, the country, or even the industry sector. You can also use the referential type by selecting the databases relevant to your LCA. For example, use Ecoinvent for your LCA on T-shirts to do a full ISO 14040/44 LCA.
