Overview

The Task Drawer is one of the fundamental experiences in GUIDEcx. The new drawer loads much faster and is laid out in a more intentional way where higher priority fields are near the top of the drawer.

One of the best things about this new Plan View and the new Task Drawer is that we now have Background Navigation in place. In our Legacy app if you opened the Task Drawer, the rest of the app was disabled and you couldn’t move onto another area without first closing the drawer and then reopening it again for another task.

In our new version, the rest of the Plan View stays active and you can click from task to task and the drawer will update based on the task you navigate to. Additionally, if you care about reviewing Messages or adding time to tasks via the Time Tracking tab, the drawer will remember which tab you have open and when the task loads it will load on that appropriate tab.

Task Drawer Details

Here is what you can expect inside of the drawer, from top to bottom.

  • Breadcrumbs - You can dive into tasks and subtasks and can use the breadcrumb to easily navigate between them.

  • Task Name - Can inline edit and autosave gets applied (there is no “Save” button in the drawer).

  • Task Instructions - A brand new text editor has been added to the task instructions to offer more formatting options. Also, the text box will grow with content making it easier for users to read their instructions rather than scrolling in a small window. The instructions now offer an Edit or Preview mode, where you can see either the raw merge tags or the hydrated values of the merge tags being used.

  • Responsibility - Tasks can be assigned to Customers, Internal, or Third Party (Partner).

  • Visibility - Tasks can be Visible, Hidden, or display the Task Name Only.

  • Dependency - View and set dependencies between the task and other tasks.

  • Role - Tasks can be assigned either a Project or Customer Role and this helps with automated task assignment. Customer Roles are available for all organizations, but non-default Project Roles are a paid feature. See the Resource Management Help Article for more details.

  • Estimated Hours - Displays how much time is expected to be used to complete the task.

  • Start and End Date of task

  • Tags - Add or remove tags to tasks to help with filtering and other bulk actions.

  • Created by - This is a History item that lets you know where the task came from.

  • Attachments - The task drawer leverages our new Attachments flow which means you have drag and drop capabilities as well as Preview abilities for images and PDFs.

  • Subtasks - This is where you can add new subtasks as needed or drill into already created subtasks.

  • Task Custom Fields - The new drawer makes it easier to manage these custom fields. There is a “Search” option at the top of the section so that if you are looking for something specific you can jump right to it. Additionally, we have moved any “Required” custom fields to the top of the section and made them easy to access and populate rather than scrolling through the entire list.

  • Assignee - See who is assigned and change it simply by clicking on the name and selecting another user from the dropdown list.
Hint: Just do it from the card rather than opening the full Task Drawer.

  • Status - View and update the status from this button - again, a best practice is to do it directly from the task card.

Within the task drawer you will see tabs for Messages and Time Tracking. If you click on the Messages tab, you will see the task channel associated with the task. If you click on the Time Tracking tab, you can enter time specifically related to your efforts on the task.
