Send a notification

Sending a notification means composing your message in one or more channels (voice, SMS, email), choosing which contacts receive it, and sending it now or scheduling it for later. This article walks the whole path from a blank form to a sent notification. The optional and advanced pieces link out to their own articles so this stays the clear, fast route through the middle.

Before you start

You need Notify permissions and at least one contact list in Contact Manager. If you send notifications regularly for the same situations, build a template first so you can skip most of the steps below.

Steps

  1. From the Active or Closed Notifications tab, click Create Notification (web, left-hand side) or the send icon (mobile).

  2. At the top of the form, give the notification a name. A good name includes the purpose and the location, for example Muster — North Plant. This is what you will scan for later when you are monitoring or reporting.

  3. (Optional) To save time, pick an existing Template from the Template dropdown. If you have unsaved changes, Notify asks you to confirm before it loads the template into your fields.

  4. Compose your message. Choose the channels you want to send (voice, SMS, email) and write each one. Voice can be text-to-speech or an audio recording you upload or record on the spot. The full details for each channel, including the 300-character text-to-speech guideline and audio recording limits, are in Compose voice, SMS, and email messages.

If a channel's tab is missing, it is turned off in Advanced Settings. See Message, call, and response settings to switch it on.

  5. Choose who receives it. Under Contact, check the contact lists that should get the notification. To send to specific people instead of a whole list, click the > beside a group to expand it and check individual names.

  6. (Optional) Open Advanced Settings (the settings icon, bottom-left on web / top-right on mobile) to fine-tune the send. This is where you:

  7. (Recommended) Send yourself a test call first. Enter your phone number and click Make Test Call to hear exactly what your contacts will hear.

  8. Click Send Notification (web) or the send icon (mobile). If anything is incomplete, a brief message appears at the top of the screen telling you what to fix.

  9. Confirm in the dialog that appears. On web, click the send/schedule button; on mobile, tap Yes. If you scheduled the notification, it sends automatically at the time you set; otherwise it goes out immediately.

That's it. Your notification now appears in Active Notifications, where you can watch responses come in.
