What is Screen Time?

Screen Time is a feature that monitors how much time you spend using your device and specific applications. It provides insights into your digital habits by tracking:

  • Total time spent on your device

  • Time spent on individual apps

  • How often you pick up your device

  • Which apps send you the most notifications

Set Up Habit to track Screen Time

Habitify's new integration leverages this data to help you build better digital habits:

For Good Habits:

  • Track time spent on productive apps like reading, learning, or fitness applications

  • Set goals in "hours" or "minutes" to ensure you're dedicating enough time to beneficial activities

Example: Read 30 minutes daily on Apple Books or Practice a language with Doulingo for 15 minutes

For Bad Habits:

  • Set limits on potentially distracting applications

  • Track and reduce time spent on social media, games, or shopping apps

Example: Quit TikTok or Reduce YouTube usage under 1 hour per day

To add a new habit to track the screen time

  • Navigate to the Journal view and tap the + button on the date bar

  • Choose whether Create Good Habit or Break Bad Habit

  • Switch to the Screen Time option, and tap on Add Apps

  • Tap on the checkbox to choose the apps or add website domains that you want to track the screentime, then click Continue

  • Grant Habitify the permissions including:

    • Notifications

    • App Usage Access

    • Display Over Other Apps (to enable the tracking on app usage screen)

    • Habitify Usage Limites and Website Analytics (to enable the tracking on website usage)

Important Note

  • Screen time values will be records after you close the app, or until you reach your goal threshold.

  • For good habits (like reading apps), your habit is marked complete once you reach your time goal, though the counter continues tracking additional usage

  • For bad habits (like social media):

    • Goal as "Limit this habit": Habitify will actually limit your app usage once you reach your maximum threshold.

    • Goal as "Quit this habit": Your selected app will be limited by default.

    • This restriction remains in place unless you deliberately mark the habit as "Skip" or "Fail."
