Tired of manually logging your productive work hours, or wondering how much time you really spend on distracting websites? By connecting Habitify to RescueTime, you can now automatically track your screen time on your PC or laptop as a habit.
This guide will walk you through how to set up this powerful integration to automate your tracking for both good and bad habits.
What You'll Need Before You Start
This integration works by pulling data from your RescueTime account. Before you begin, please make sure you have:
This integration is now available on iOS app only.
A Habitify account (Premium is required for integrations).
A RescueTime account.
The RescueTime desktop app installed and running on your Windows, macOS, or Linux computer.
RescueTime works by tracking the app or website you are actively using (the "active window") and automatically categorizing it (e.g., "Software Development," "Social Media," "Shopping"). Habitify then imports this data.
Step-by-Step: Creating a RescueTime-Synced Habit
From the main Journal screen, tap the '+' button on the date bar,
then choose between Create Good Habit or Break Bad Habit.
At the top, find tap on the "RescueTime" tab.
You will see a list of activity categories provided by RescueTime. Choose the one you want to track (e.g., "Software Development" for a good habit or "Distracting Time" for a bad habit).
For the first time, you must click the "Allow Access" button. A pop-up window will open, asking you to log in to your RescueTime account and grant Habitify permission to read your activity data.
Once you've authorized the connection, you will be returned to Habitify. Now, simply configure your habit as you normally would. See more:
Save the habit.
That's it! Your habit is now set up to automatically sync the time you spend on that activity on your computer.
Important Notes & What to Expect (Please Read)
This integration has some specific behaviors set by RescueTime's system. Please take note of the following:
Initial Sync Time: The very first time you set up the habit, it will take approximately 10 minutes for the first data sync to complete.
Data Syncs for the Previous Day: This is the most important limitation to understand. RescueTime's system finalizes its data at the end of the day. Therefore, until the day 2 will your data from RescueTime of day 1 be synced to Habitify for the day 1.
One RescueTime, Multiple Accounts: You can connect a single RescueTime account to several different Habitify accounts if you wish.
